Babies deserve special treatment when driven in cars because they are tender and fragile! Do not drive your baby in your car without these safety features!
Congratulations on your soon-to-be-born baby! A child is always a blessing, regardless of circumstances surrounding their birth. With their arrival comes a new beginning. Your life as a mother or father changes for the better. Babies can be a pain in the neck with all their troubles, but these troubles make them even cuter.

Naijauto knows you cannot wait to have your bundle of joy. If you had your way, you would have your baby in your arms right now. But hey, you have to follow “due process,” the nine months have to be completed. While you await your baby’s arrival, it is important that you do everything possible to ensure that the baby is safe when they finally arrive. You did not wait this long only to endanger the life of your child in your car.

Check below 4 car safety features for babies every expectant parent must have on their vehicle!

1. Four doors

Babies are meant to be comfortably placed in the rear seat area of a car. Although a good number of two-door cars offer rear seats, but accessing that area is a lot of work. You should not have to struggle to keep your baby there and also struggle to get him/her out. Not only is that stressful to you as a parent, it is also stressful to the baby. With a four-door car, you do not have to go through much hassle to get your baby in an out of the car. You simply open the door and keep them inside. A minivan might not be your favorite car, but the ease it offers with sliding your baby in and out of the car is unbeatable.

2. LATCH anchors

Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) is a modern feature present in most cars produced after 2012. It makes it easier for a car seat to be installed. However, digging through seats just to find the anchors takes away the ease that LATCH anchors are meant to provide.

Some automakers think it is best to hide them between the back and seat bottom in the crevice. Others keep them at the back of plastic doors when they are not being used. Getting a car with LATCH anchors is not enough. You should ensure that the LATCH anchors are placed conveniently for easy access. You do not have to struggle each time you want to keep your baby in the car.

In fact, to save yourself any regrets, carry your baby’s car seat with you to the dealership or wherever you want to buy the car from. In the course of inspecting the car, place the seat in the car using the LATCH anchors. Is it easy to be placed? If the answer is no, you should look elsewhere. This is your precious baby we are talking about; do not compromise on getting a car with convenient LATCH anchors.

3. Integrated sunshades

Sunshades are some adults’ favorite accessories. No one likes to be beaten mercilessly by the harsh Naija sun. Being in the car might give you some shade, but it does not stop the sun from hitting you. Sun visors are available to front passengers to shield the sun away.

But what about babies?

Little babies cannot talk yet. So, they will not tell you when the sun is hitting them. When it gets unbearably, they start crying. It is your responsibility as a parent to sun-proof the car for them with integrated sunshades. You can get aftermarket sunshades, but getting the perfect one is a lot of work. The majority of them do not cover then whole window. All the sun needs, is a little opening to find its way in. To be on the safer side, ensure that this is in place when purchasing the car. Get into the car, and check if there is an opening for the sun to come in. When it is perfect, your baby will have one less reason to cry.

4. Individual seat belt icons

Your little baby will grow up to an age where he/she is old enough to use a seat belt. Having no seat belt available on every seat is not the best especially when driving kids. You need seat belt icons that chime and light up, so you can tell when your child is not using the seat belt.

Seat belt icons are very instrumental when you have more than one child in your car. It is important that all of them are seated with their belt fastened. When the icon activates, it is your clue to inspect the kids. Stop driving and go to the back to have a proper look at things. Which of the seat belts is not being used? With this, you do not have to worry about kids falling over in the event of a mishap. It gets even better if you have a car that automatically notifies you of the seat with the unfastened seat belt. You get to save a lot of time that would have been spent trying to figure it out.
