I think if we must establish state police then Governors should have partial immunity. On matters concerning impunity on security whereby Governors are seen to use the state police selfishly then they should be prosecuted even while in office. I think this is the only way we can effectively tackle pressing security issues in Nigeria.

he is right. security votes should be for minor case. or do you want the money to carry guns and start fighting insecurity?

Which security is minor and which is major ?

Oga his said he doesn't have control over police. What does that have to do with security vote? If you are not allowed to hire someone what use is the what meant for such?

when you do the right thing with security votes you will get the right security result!

an example of a minor security case is community clash or misunderstanding. in this case they can be negotiated with to come up with a reasonable solution. you don't expect a governor to start fighting faceless cultists, robbers, kidnappers or terrorist.

It is high time NASS agree unanimously to establish state autonomous police.

I respectfully beg to disagree with your last sentence

Cultists, robbers and even kidnappers are under the purview of a Governor.

Terrorists might be outside his scope because they have international backers and funding etc..

A good example. Bukola Saraki as Kwara Governor crushed cultism in the state effectively. How he converted them to his private army is a story for another day.

But 200million+ naira monthly isn't for community squabbles. NO

State police will also create its own problems like WITCH HUNTING......Then lack of adequate training and exposure, Further insecurity caused by compensating thugs with jobs via state police....be warned: THIS IS NIGERIA
Re: Any Governor Saying He Can Tackle Insecurity Is Lying – Governor Darius Ishaku by orisa37: 6:38am On May 23, 2019
Meanwhile state policing is the only way to tackle insecurity in the Nigeria 36 states.

I open my hat for u. People don't know that these people are toying with our lives. For bukola own, from federal polytechnic, offa, that has more secret cults, to unilorin, to colleges of education, and KP, none of them exist again and till today. He hired many past cultists leaders to deal with them. (Omo Ina lan ran si Ina)

Ode, you can tackle Insecuirity by creating economic oppurtunity that would lead to meaningfull employment to the jobless youths instead of dancing shaku shaku with over $1million secuirity votes monthly.

with such secuirity votes he can convineintly start building agroprocessing factories at each local goverment

State police is not good. Vigilante groups are preferable.

I wonder what Kogi State Police command will be like under Yahaya Bello. Naysayers better not enter Kogi.

NPF needs reformation. NPF is not the problem. They are the products of the society. Nigeria is messed up. It is idiotic to single out NPF in the mess called Nigeria. Go to police stations and see how they live like animals. Then they give them guns and expect them to act civilized. Nemo day quod non habet.

Well maybe you should ask him since you said a Governor has no control over security in his state.

Done with this.

Wicked man. So security votes are just for peppersouping and suyaing ?

I agree that State Police would improve the security situation but..... some Governors would still embezzle money meant for State Police
they will also use it as a means to oppress other politicians in their state

This is so true...we know that the best way to curb the herdsmen menace is not by building colony as the government is proposing, rather is by state policing.
I know the disadvantages are there considering police becoming a tool in the governors hand. But the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages here....Even in America this is the practice !!!!
But what do I even know sef.
.

You are on Track. States will have SPSC, State Policy Services Commission, which will be responsible for SPC, State Police Commission; SRC, State Resources Commission; and SEC, State Electioneering Commission.

We already have many militias in this country, from street gangs, to vigilantes, to cultists, to organized crime mafias, to militants, to terrorists. State police would be just another Governor's militia that will eventually be politicized and used to suppress opposition and oppress non-conforming citizens. State police will just be another 'Gestapo' rising. Most of our Governors already have power-drunk dictatorship tendencies, and they are just looking for foot soldiers to solidify their rule. State police is a very big NO. Nigeria is not civilized enough for it. State police is not a MUST before states can have good security. What are the governors doing with their inflated security votes money? These wayo governors sef grin

Rightly said, even ordinary task for are behaving as if they have arrest warrant.
