1. Justice Bulkachuwa Withdraws From Presidential Election Tribunal
The President of the Court of Appeal, and Chairman of the five-member panel of the Presidential Election Tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has recused herself from the tribunal.
Naija News reports that Justice Bulkachuwa recused herself from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal today, Wednesday, May 22.
2. Osun: Senator Adeleke Sues IGP Adamu Over Arrest
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Osun Governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke (PDP-Osun West) has sued the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu over his arrest and detention.
The embattled lawmaker had approached the Osun State High Court, Ikirun seeking for his fundamental rights to personal liberty and right to freedom of movement and the court presided over by Justice Jide Falola ordered the police not to arrest or detain the senator pending the determination of the substantive case filed before it.
3. Next Level: Buhari Tells Ministers When To Handover
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked cabinet ministers to continue in office until Tuesday next week, May 28, a day to his inauguration (May 29) for a second term as Nigeria’s president.
Naija News reports that the President gave the directive during the valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Wednesday, May 22.
4. Buhari Orders Clear Up Of Apapa Gridlock In 2 Weeks
President Muhamadu Buhari’s administration has given a 2 weeks ultimatum for the clearing up of the Apapa gridlock and the restoration of law and order to Apapa and its environs.
The directive given today was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande.
5. Court Fixes Date For Allison-Madueke’s Arraignment
An FCT High Court sitting in Apo has set October 3, for the arraignment of former Minister of Petroleum, Deziani Alison-Madueke, on five counts bordering on conspiracy and illegal act of accepting and giving gratifications.
The date was fixed, on Wednesday, following the absence of Valentine Ashi, trial judge, who was on another official engagement.
6. Two Kidnapped FRSC Officers Released
Two officers of Federal Road Safety Corps simply identified as Abioye and Bayegunni, abducted on Sunday by gunmen along Ilesha/Akure Expressway, have been released.
Naija News recalls that the Osun Police Command had earlier promised to rescue the two officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) after their abduction on Sunday.
7. Atiku Vs Buhari: APC Lawyer Tells Bulkachuwa To Quit
Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), counsel to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has asked the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa to quit from the presidential election petitions tribunal.
Fagbemi, who said the application by the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was unmeritorious, however, advised the judge to disqualify herself from further participation in the five-man tribunal for the sake of her name.
8. Atiku Drags Buhari’s Aide To Court Over Defamation
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has resolved to sue the social media assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, for allegedly defaming his character.
Speaking to Punch on Tuesday, counsel to the former VP, Mike Ozekhome, said the 48 hours given to Onochie to settle the matter out of court had lapsed.
9. EFCC Moves Against Judge Who Stopped Probe Of Saraki, Okorocha, Others
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has asked the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to transfer all cases involving the commission away from Justice Taiwo Taiwo.
The anti-graft agency in the letter by its acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, accused Justice Taiwo of bias.
10. Buhari Presides Over FEC Valedictory Session
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, presided over the valedictory session of the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The arrival of the president at the Council chambers of the State House on Wednesday kick-started the meeting at 11:03 am.
