Yahaya Bello Expanding Kogi Economy


Governor Yahaya Bello in 2017 awarded the contract of Ejiba Rice Processing Mill as part of new direction government efforts to expand Kogi economy, ensure food security, encourage rice farming and create job opportunity.

The mill has capacity of producing 50 tons per day and 720,000 bags of 50kg annually. Kogi state government has also prepared 800 hectares of rice plantation to feed mill and empowered over 150 local farmers through office of the governor in 2018.

The Rice Processing Mill to be commissioned in August 2019 will create over 5000 directly and indirectly and boost the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Governor Yahaya Bello funded the over N4billion project despite the scarce resources due to its multiplier effect; as the rice bran is part of the products used in making fish feed while the rice husk will be used as our 100% fuel to power the 500 kWh biomass generation plant.


The capacity of the plant is 500 kWh and the rice milling plant capacity at every processing line (shift) is 200kwh. This means there will be an excess power of 300kwh which will be used to power strategic locations in the host community.
