Anthony Joshua react after he was knocked out in stunning fashion by Andy Ruiz Jr, losing his world heavyweight titles and his unbeaten record in the process.

“I was just in front of a good fighter,” he said. “Boxing is a tough sport, but I trained hard, I stayed dedicated.

“I just got beaten by a good fighter tonight. It’ll be interesting to see how far he can go. I’ll be back, this is all part of the journey.”

“I’m a fighter at heart, a boxer by trade,” Joshua continued. “He did well, he did what he had to do. It got people talking. More life to the heavyweight division.

“You know when your legs are all over the gaff? You’re just trying to stay calm and mobilise your body. He’s a very grounded fighter. They can’t box with me so they have to throw big punches, I’ve got to work on my grounding.

“Congratulations to him, the first ever Mexican heavyweight champion.

“It’s upsetting, it’s upsetting to my team. We put together a good team, and I’m the first one to take a loss. But we bounce back.

“I’ve got to get that armoury, but that’s the risk you take.

“Congratulations to him, every fighter deserves respect, congratulations to him. I respect every fighter, once you’re in there it’s guts and glory.

“This is all part of the legacy, the story. It’s how strong I come back. I look forward to seeing where I went wrong.

“He’s the champ for now, just bare that in mind, he’s the champ for now. I shall return.
