If there is a strong national security agency whose duties supersedes that of the state of police if found wanton to be used by politicians, Governors will respect themselves because the state police would be answerable to the opinion of public court and not the Governors.

This is a very good news, With the advantage of shared common language and culture, crime prevention and containment will be relatively easy.
Federal police officers, prior now are posted randomly to states where the cooperation of the local populace is essential in carrying out effective policing.

However, stringent measures will be put in place to  prevent the abusive use of the force to oppress political  opponents. This should not normally happen,  since the  overriding interest of a political leader is to rule over a state, where  the people go about their daily activities in peace and the government is also at peace. Even at that, bad politicians and leaders still use thugs to harass their people and political rivals

The decision of the Federal Government to approve State and Local Government police under the leadership of a Police Commissioner  is a good decision,
But Community policing is also confronted with the challenges of discipline, training, remuneration, management, organisational structure and legality. The personnel could however be screened and those who qualify and are found suitable may be coopted into the state police force.
The overriding advantages of a state police cannot be overemphasised.  The threats posed by insurgents, murderers, bandits, kidnappers, suicide bombers and other criminals are real and all measures in whatever form taken to confront these threats should be embraced.

God bless our President Muhammadu Buhari and his AMIABLE Vice President PROF YEMI OSINBAJO as they take our nation to the NEXT LEVEL, Aka, A land flowing with milk and honey.

Don't like state police for 2 reasons

1.Funding...who is going to fund the state police?? (Don't tell me it is the Federal Government).

At the end of the day, TAXES are going to go up to fund the state police.

2.Tribalism. Especially in states with multiple tribes, and states that have settlers from outiside. (And don't tell me it won't happen).

national assembly done their own part by passed the bill to Mr. president for the approval, now he has approved it, it won't go back to national assembly anymore now it has become law

He is right. There is a police act which recognises d police as federal. 4u to have state police, d president just can't unilaterally "approve" state police. It has 2go thru d national assembly so that there will b laws 2 that effect. Right now d constitution doesn't recognise state police& d president isn't above d constitution 2 change a section of d constitution by "approval".
