when will you stop blaming obasanjo for everything , this road is under rehabilition and this made the chinko company dig the ground in other to fix pipes and find a lasting solution to water affecting the road, i guess that man doesnt know the road well..... RIP to the dead.

RIP to the dead. Meanwhile, extra caution is needed whenever it is raining; better still, stop and allow situation to calm down before going on your journey.

If this happens in China, the contractor would be executed. In the West, he would be put away for a long time. In Nigeria, this report is the last we are going to hear about the incident.

Thursday Heavy Rain: Six People Dead As A Result of Chinese Company Negligence.

Thursday 5:00pm: The rain started with tiny showers before gushing out in heavy torrents. Most plans were cancelled, people took shelter in their homes. Somewhere in Adatan, a suburban area of Abeokuta, about 5 unsuspecting passenger (according to speculation by eye witnesses) journeying in a Toyota Corolla miscalculated and ran head-ons into a ditch.

How It Happened?

The driver thought it was just the usual pothole, not aware he's about to plunge into a “fish pond”. The gully was made by a Chinese construction company CCECC which was commissioned by the state government to construct motorable roads and bridges. The big mistake was that the gully was left uncovered even after the contractor went to work on another site. On getting to the site of the event this morning, our correspondent tried to find a caution sign or anything that would alert incoming traffic of the danger ahead but found none. Mistake Number Two.

The Impact?

Friday 7:00am: People woke up to the sight of a dead body at the bank of the new pond—made by rain water and a forgotten gully with a blue corolla sinking away with only the boot in sight. Approximately six lives were lost just from an avoidable oversight.

May God save us from avoidable dangers. God will not save us except we take action to avoid predictable disaster.

These Chinese people are dangerous I don't understand why Nigeria government will be collecting loans from them, I don't trust them or Jews.

They are more dangerous than the Westerners.

Government are partly to blame and the so called citizens are part of to be blamed for their current state.

The negligence on the parts of this so called foreign contractors is becoming unbearable. They see our govt as an unserious entity. Head must roll in the affected ministry to serve as a deterrent to others. And contractors handling the project must be brought to book.

It is a systemic issue for us as a nation. In a sane clime, that gully wouldn't be there.
However, CCECC can't try that stupidity in China or any other country where things are working.
I pity the poor victims and other Nigerians.

If you don't know the road well, don't drive through it when flooded. I know how many times I have waited or even turned back on flooded roads I know, not to talk of the one I don't know. Safety is in the brain. RIP to them.
