(NAN) The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and one of Nigeria's airlines, Air Peace Ltd, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday on the anti-trafficking association.

Dame Julie Okah-Donli, Managing Director of NAPTIP signed on behalf of the agency, while Chief Allen Onyema, Managing Director / Executive Director, Air Peace signed for its airline at its corporate headquarters in GRA Ikeja Lagos.

Okah-Donli said the relationship between the two organizations began months ago, adding that the signing was to officially use its platforms to combat human trafficking and irregular migration in Nigeria.

"The collaboration aims to ensure the eradication of illegal migration and trafficking in persons, and to spread anti-trafficking messages in Nigeria as an effective measure against human trafficking and irregular migration.

"However, the specific objectives are: Support the agency in the areas of awareness to reduce the incidence of human trafficking and irregular migration.

"To partner with the agency to effectively carry anti-trafficking messages through Air Peace routes.

"Today is not a day for long speeches, but for our signatures where we have been our hearts and our mouths for the last two months, and to set in motion the land of the association," he said.

Earlier, Onyema said his organization was partnering with NAPTIP to reduce the number of Nigerians and Africans who are trafficked.

He praised the director general of the agency for his tenacity in the fight against human trafficking, and noted that his mandate had given the agency a higher level of recognition.

The executive director said that his organization was committed to every statement in the MOU, ensuring that Air Peace would do more to update the agreement.

He called on other corporate organizations to join NAPTIP in the fight against human trafficking.

Onyeka promised to employ some trafficked survivors regardless of their educational qualifications, emphasizing that the gesture would encourage NAPTIP and also discourage those who wanted to be trafficked.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on March 28, 2019, some members of the Air Peace Airline crew were honored by the NAPTIP chief, with an Excellence Award "for saving a three-month-old baby of human traffickers in Banjul, Gambia. " '

Human trafficking don't just thrive. The root causes must be surmounted by the government first..... Poverty, poor leadership, illiteracy, unemployment are the catalysts....With the slightest convictions on a better life, every poor child is vulnerable.
