I read a lot and there are a number of things that really put me off a book, small things but they forever manage to kill the mood. Like say for example the book cover, I can’t stand it when there is/are some kind of model(s) slapped on the front to illustrate the characters Mary Sue's/Marty Stu's also (there are of course many versions of this) irk me. |

I'm afraid my peeves are not petty at all. I hate seeing any character depictions at all. Frankly, most books I read are either recommended or reviewed somewhere and I read about it or I like the author. I don't think I've ever bought a book just because it looked pretty. |

So you prefer a blank cover? As far as the models look like the characters that's OK. I don't want a blond long haired model while the character is black with short afro hair, lol, |

Outside romance, i don't read female authors. It's not limited to books though. |

@Ibkaye- never mind then lol. I was aware of the concept Mary Sue's/Stu's in fiction but I didn't know that was the term used until I went to tvtropes.org. I'd never heard it anywhere before there too, so thought maybe you were a fellow user. You know, I don't really have any pet peeves. Maybe the entire twilight series? Or clear cash cows, like the Left Behind series. Did that really need to be 12 books long? I could even take the 12 book original series, but the prequel and sequel? The tie-in non fiction books? It's a bit unseemly. |

No, Myne. I like to see something symbolical like an icon or bullets or warheads or a scene or whatever really. Except human beings. Fortunately the kinda books I read will never have an edition with a shirtless blonde dude grabbing another girl model for Pantene shampoo. Those are the worst for me. |
