Can anybody tell me any muslim country that is been governed by a woman presently. If not then any hope?

The largest muslim nation in the world Indonesia had a female as its president (Megawati Soekarnoputri).

I also believe there are others I cannot recall now.

Benazir Bhutto has also been prime minister of Pakistan on 2 occassions

The poster's intentions may be to show that countries that practice islam are retrogressive and the woman does not have a place, hence her questions especially the last one.

Unfortunately for people that think in this same line we have more than one example to trash the erronous mindset.

Religious fundamentalism is the main problem, although the unreformed nature of Islam contributes to it.

The only example I can think of is Pakistan. (Technically, electing a female president is not an Islamic thing to do).

I believe Malaysia also had/have a female leader.

Khaleda Zia has also been the Prime minister of Bangladesh (It is the third-largest Muslim-majority nation in the world)


As well as Sheikh Hasina Wajed who was also prime minister of Bangladesh

and you also have Chandrika Kumaratunga of Sri Lanka although Sri Lanka is not a muslim majority, there are more Bhuddists there but it does have a considerable amount of Muslim population

Our neigbouring country in West Africa Senegal has also produced a Prime minister in the name of Mame Madior Boye (Prime minister of Senegal from 3 Mar 2001 to 4 Nov 2002. ) Senegal has a 94% muslim population
