Traffic violation fines are very big source of income in developed countries. In a lawless city like Lagos, the state could earn billions per year from traffic violations.

Forcking sound bite. This is Cele to Mile 2 this afternoon. How about that.

The danfos and the okadas need to be banished. They are the major cause of much of the headache on Lagos roads. They drive without regard for anything.

Potholes everywhere.... Lagos roads are js nightmare

Trailers parked at Cele-Mile 2 road is illegal parking and I guess all of them have paid 20k and the next day paid 30k ....

I hope all the Danfo and Keke that ply through Cele to Ilasa to Oshodi have all paid 20k

I hope all the Danfos that usual park at Jakande gate, Toyota bus stop causing traffic every rush hour has been paying 20k

These are the major traffic violators in Lagos

This guy should fix the potholes on all major roads in Lagos and stop hiding under the guise of the activities of motorist as the major cause of traffic on the roads, though it constitute part of it but the primary cause of traffic are bad portions on those roads.
i have twitted this more than 1million times. Declare war on bad roads first before enforcing what is not enforceable. Don’t start on lagosians with hardship.

We should also be able to levy penalties against the Lagos State Govt when they default in their responsibilities.

Noise is a constant thing in Naija. Buses still stop along dat busy Oshodi road to pick passengers in the full glare of Latsma and Police. I don spend plenty 1hr dor traffic there for nothing.

AutoReportNG:

For the avoidance of doubt, according to the state law, parking on the kerb or walkways or outside the premises where the driver has come to transact business in a manner that either obstruct traffic or constitutes illegal use of public space is a violation of the law and could attract a fine of Twenty thousand Naira (N20, 000) or a community service after a documentary evidence has been presented to the offender.

How do u define d highlighted? Is it left to d discretion of d so called taskforce officer? This is Lagos& we no when people are given small power, they use it d way they like.

Where u c real violations are mostly from bus drivers who park on d road to carry& drop passengers or agberos hanging at d back of danfo. No one arrests them. So bros, leave this matter

Since the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu came into office, he has restarted it over time that his administration will have zero tolerance for people who disobey the traffic law in the state. The Lagos State Government yesterday in his various social media handles released the updated list of traffic offences and their fines, an indication which shows Lagos means business!

AutoReportNG was in CMS today and we passed through the popular Tinubu Square close to the GTBank branch, we noticed some cars parked along the road have their plate numbers removed with a sticker attached to the windscreen that the owner should appear at the task force office at Oshodi. The Lagos State Mobile Court is known to be responsible for cases where motorists violate the traffic rule among others.

It will be recalled that last week, 2 drivers who drove through the one-way in Ikeja were made to forfeit their vechicles to the state government. It's another week, we can only appeal to drivers to drive responsibly and shun parking at the sideways.

But there's something the government neglected, or they turned a blind eye on purpose so people can fall victims.

The area I'm talking about is the area of "one way"

The locations designated as "one way" should have a bold and clear signal notifying motorist of that it's a one way route.

Most of the signs that should warn motorists are either not there or very faint.

I know sanwo olu is looking for means to generate money to pay the 100% increase in salary he promised them, but he should do it with fear of God.
Spot on!

No one has a problem with enforcement of traffic regulations but the fines/punishments have to be reasonable e.g max of 5k, 10k for the more serious offences. These are civil offences and do not warrant police harrasment using guns, or vehicle impoundment. In fact, civilized societies have automated such enforcement functions via the use of electronic surveillance and computer systems.

This draconian regime seems geared in the direction of forcing offenders into on-the-spot negotiation & payment of bribes to the thugs in Lagos state uniform.

The government needs to give people time to adjust to.these new laws. Probably fix a dead line for full implementation or smtn. Also they have to work on the roads and probably re educating the public via media. I don't even understand sm of these laws.

Re: Lagos Traffic Taskforce Begins Clampdown Against Traffic Offender by Holak: 7:09pm On Jun 18, 2019
Good call to clamp on traffic offenders but I feel the penalties are not commensurate with the offences. What will happen is that the LASTMA officials will capitalize on this to extort bribes on motorists as it will be cheaper to negotiate with them. It is common to hear LASTMA officials telling you that the fine for your offence is 50k, then they will demand for half of it, from there you may end up paying 10k minimum. Assuming the penalty for the offence is 10k, you more offenders will pay to the government. Secondly, overzealous LASTMA officials will arrest people unjustly even for offences that are not tenable like changing of lane, they will say you are obstructing traffic. How does the court determine and prove cases because they will always tell you it is my word against yours. Even when they snap, it still does not prove such offence beyond reasonable doubt. Thirdly, it seems government and LASTMA are more interested in catching traffic offenders and fining them or sending them to jail than maintaining law and order. The governor should have started with sensitization. Again some road signs are not available or clear especially one-way and no U-turn signs. The LASTMA officials hide and wait for offenders to swoop on. But I support that people who deliberately and flagrantly flout traffic rules should be made to face the law.

They should first of all do the needful as a responsible government, like erecting road signs.
Then again, the fine is too much in this economy.
