Goods worth millions of naira were on Tuesday destroyed by fire at Modern Market in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

A trader in the market, Madam Ngozi, told Punch correspondent that the fire started around 7.30pm.

She said, “I had left when someone called me that there was a fire outbreak in the market; I rushed there.”

When our correspondent got to the market many traders were seen making frantic efforts to remove their goods while officials of the state fire service got to the scene at 8.55pm.
