Many motorists complain of feeling less safe while driving at night, even those who do not have vision problems such as night blindness. Combine less visibility with any other factor, such as adverse weather conditions or fatigue, and this could increase the risk factor involved. Because newer drivers may lack the experience to handle night time driving, not to mention trust, it's a good idea to keep some tips in mind when it comes to safety and night time driving. Some reports indicate that traffic-related deaths are as high as three times higher during dark night hours.

1.
Make use of the Head-lamps

Actually, it is a good idea to get into the habit of having headlights on more frequently. At a minimum, you should turn on the headlights approximately one hour before nightfall. This makes it easier for you to see how the sun goes
down, but also makes it more visible to other drivers. Of course, in times of bad weather, consider using your lights regardless of the time of day. Thunderstorms, for example, can bring dark clouds that turn the sky almost as dark as night.
You must be polite enough so that others can see you more easily.

2.
Back off

While it is never a good idea to follow it closely, this bad habit should be avoided during dark hours and when the weather is bad. There are several reasons why this is a terrible rule to break during night driving. One is that you make the other driver nervous, which makes you more likely to react badly to something on the road and cause an accident. Also, the closer the headlights are, the brighter they may seem and the more distracted they can be. Again, this puts the driver ahead of you nervous and can also limit your visibility and end up causing problems.

3.
Move your eyes and stay alert

The best way to avoid a nocturnal incident is to watch the lights and movements and constantly check those mirrors. It's just as important to know the headlights of other cars as to recognize other things, such as cars without headlights. At night, it's harder to see the animals by the side of the road, children still playing in the street, or debris that may already be there or become a problem.

Stay alert by checking the mirrors often enough to see what is happening around you. That also means being at the top in defensive driving. Sometimes, especially at night, it is more about watching the mistakes of other drivers than having to worry about their own. However, be sure to keep your mirrors clean and direct them in a direction that will allow you to see better, but if possible, you will lose the brightness.

4.
It depends on the headlights

Keeping the headlights clean, pointed in the right direction and lit, is the key to a safe night ride. A big mistake is driving too long with just one burning headlight. First of all, it will obviously affect your visibility. Second, there is a possibility that the other burns out and you fail one night without functioning headlights. It's also one of the most dangerous things you could do.
Also, make sure the lights are pointing in the right direction.

5.
Stay awake

For most people, your body is used to sleeping after dark. Start your journey with hours of driving rather than sleep first, and it can be difficult to get your body to agree. Be aware of that and plan accordingly.
First leave as early as possible. If traffic stops after five o'clock rush hour, it's generally a good time to get started. For many people, it helps the body, mind and eyes to adjust when they start, while it is still light and then retire into the sunset and it gets dark. On the other hand, it makes the transition for some tired. In that case, it may just be what you need when you leave the house once it's as dark as it gets. Find out what kind of night riders you are and plan accordingly.

POINTS TO NOTE:

If drivers can follow the instructions above, there will be less risk of accident and severe injuries. It will definitely make you safe on the way.
