“Mr. President should not be disturbed, MEND no longer exists. Anyone who says MEND is involved is wasting his time.”
~ Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent leader of the South-South region of Nigeria, speaking on the alleged suspects of the October 1, bomb blasts in Abuja, Nigeria.

Chief Edwin Clark told The Punch newspaper Monday that MEND no longer exists, because of the on-going AMNESTY in the Niger Delta and especially now that a native of the region is the President and Commander -in- Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. President Goodluck Jonnathan also was reported to have absolved MEND of the horrifying Independence Day bombings near the Eagle Square venue of the celebrations of 50th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria. But MEND continues to claim the responsibility and dismissed the AMNESTY as a scam and called those engaged in the post Amnesty Rehabilitation programme as miscreants and not militants of the real Niger Delta struggle.
