[size=14pt]2 Bakassi Boys sentenced to death in Owerri[/size]

An Owerri high court presided over by Justice Goody Anunihu, on Monday, sentenced to death by hanging one Jude Nwokoye and Amachi Anunobi.

The two convicts, who are members of Bakassi Boys in Imo State, have been standing trial on the murder of one Lawrence Iwuoha, alias Nze white, and his driver, Damian Anyanwu, since 2004.

The judge, however, discharged and acquitted the former chairman of Ehime Local Government Area, Mrs May Amaka Agbiogwu; Mrs Chinyere Nwachukwu and Mr Okey Ehieze for lack of evidence in his four-hour judgment.

According to him, the persons who were discharged in the case could not be sentenced to death because the prosecution could not prove its case beyond any reasonable doubt.

The judge pointed out that Nwokoye, who led the team of policemen to the safety tank were the deceased bodies were buried, was involved in the case.
