Nonsense ideas.. The political elites know that a weakened central govt and more powers to regional govt or practical true federalism will give more powers to the masses, and help push the masses to begin to hold their various political leaders accountable, so they are running away from this idea.

They will do everything possible to avoid this idea..

Is the policy makers in fg just plain dumb? The purpose of community or state policing is to get people that are familiar with the place to police the place over certain cases, why would you use a Corp member that is not familiar with a place to police a place and the Corp member will leave after a year... What is wrong with this people for God's sake?

Another RUGA in disguise, when they start posting Fulani Corp members to police communities in which they are foreigners,. How does it make sense? Community policing is best in the hands of the locals. Equip them and they will be more efficient.

FG, govs seek recruitment of corps members, N’Power cadets for community policing

The Federal Government and the Nigeria Governors ’ Forum have proposed to recruit National Youth Service Corps members and graduates of the N ’ Power Programme to beef up the manpower needs of the Nigeria Police Force .
The corps members and N ’ Power cadets are to make up for the inadequacy of the ongoing recruitment of 10 , 000 additional hands by the police .
They will help primarily in boosting community policing .
The Chairman of the NGF and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi , disclosed this in Abuja on Friday after he held a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa .
Fayemi stated that issue topped the agenda of the meeting of the Security Sub - Committee of the National Economic Council headed by him earlier in the week.
He said the governors , in particular , felt that the 10 , 000 men being recruited by the police would be inadequate in addressing the country’ s current security challenges , hence the urgency to seek other options .

He spoke further , “ This was a meeting that had in its membership the governors from the six zones , the Inspector - General of Police , Chief of Defence Staff and the National Security Adviser.
“ It was the outcome of the last NEC meeting , which focused exclusively on security . That committee has just met a couple of days ago and I was asked to brief both the Vice- President , who chairs the NEC and to brief the President as well on the aspect of the work of the sub - committee of NEC that will require the Commander - in -Chief’ s support.
“ Namely, the organisation of the community policing arrangement that the IGP has announced publicly as his own way of effective response to security challenges across the board.
“ The coordination between governors and security chiefs within the six zones and then recruitment into the law enforcement agencies . As you may be aware, certain recruitments are going on now particularly with regards to the police . But , we feel in our humble opinion that 10 , 000 men and women are not enough to add to the police in tackling the dearth of security agents in the country.
“ That we will have to figure out a way to increase that number either out of the N ’ Power cadets, who are coming to the end of their service year , having spent two years , or youth service corps members or any of the other institution that will enable us to boost the manpower of the Nigeria Police Force . ”

After years of studying and spending money you will end up killed by an illiterate hausa/fulani herdsman or almajiri who doesn't even know the word "Come" and has never seen the inside of a classroom and nothing will happen.

So I am studying chemical engineering right now, by the time am done and going for NYSC, you want to use me to secure your looted properties and put my life at risk (even the police and military are not adequately-equiped). May God punish everyone promoting this evil agenda of using Corp members as security operatives.

Why not think of looking at ways to effectively engage youth Corp members and prepare them for the challenges ahead in their various fields. Na so dem go carry pesin wey study Vet medicine to teach in school, engineering to do lawma job, those who are in education are in banks. Nonsense....thats why we remain in one spot over the years...no developmental plans, nothing. They keep recycling themselves with no new ideas....

Awon nincompoop....

Re: FG, Govs Seek Recruitment Of Corps Members For Community Policing by chosenwan1(m): 11:30am On Jul 06, 2019
Good idea but the way I would handle this is to give every corper the opportunity to enrol in either the police, army, navy, airforce. They can do so after 6 months of their service and then get proper training. Even if you just focus on just recruiting corpers into the police academy, it will go a long way to transform policing.

I think there are trying to figure something out here but it will be good not just to move them community police but to create their own body that will manage them just like it is being run by NYSC and Npower respectively. A body should handle them separately.

Well, it's a good idea. So far they will all volunteer to put all their family members in fore front of Corps members for the community policing, then we are good to go.

Instead of them to mobilize the Peace Corps of Nigeria Cadets, these guys are well trained. With little additional training, they are good to go. Instead of using copers who don't understand even the language of their deployed state.
Peace Corps if the Best Option.
