I used to look forward to visiting the family section. I dont usually go beyond the 1st page which used to be filled with different interesting topics, issues and life experiences.

Nowadays, different useless advertorial threads occupy that 1st page, and, it has become very exasperating trying to seek out the original contents meant for this section from the myriads of thrash overwhelming and pushing back useful topics.

I hope the mod can do something about this.

I agree! Most of the threads occupying the home page are advertisements. It is annoying, but I can’t think of a way to get rid of them. When they are deleted, the owners just post them again.

@Op I understand where you are coming from, but dont be shortsighted, that you can afford to eat 3 square meals a day without needing to raise adverts on nairaland is a priviledge.

Allow people earn their living, if they are not hustling it is people like you that will say they are lazy.

So because you are too lazy to scroll to the next page of a website that is not even your own now , people should starve to death ?

Very insensitive , and wicked of the poster of this thread.

I have threads on Nairaland and once upon a time I was creating threads like one crazed demon and the mods change am for me. They left two threads and I got the memo. cheesy cheesy

Regardless of how you choose to look at it, you call it spam but to them thats their own daily bread. You think denying people an opportunity to earn a living is the right thing to do just because you dont wanna scroll ?

Even if the person or people are only able to earn 100naira after pasting 100 threads, it is enough, by posting here it gives them hope.

I understand where you are coming from, I live in North America and here people believe in perfection and order, but humans are not robots.

You have to always consider humanity first regardless of what decision you want to make.

If you were the one that had things to sell and did not have that salaried job would you be writing these things you have written ?

Romance is worse. Go to Romance and see useless threads everywhere.

Ogbeni leave matter. It is this kind of reasoning that has turned Nigeria into the shithole it is today. When people refuse to do the right things, obey rules and regulations and follow laid down procedures, we have an environment conducive for the establishment, growth and nuturing of chaos, disorderliness and total fuckery.

Nairaland rules 1, 6 and 18 states categorically that users should create and post topics in the right section and not fracking spam the forum. All these adverts have made this section a hot mess that puts people off from visiting. The OPs complaints is akin to the suffering Lagosians suffered for years before Fashola took the bull by the horns and cleared Yaba, Oshodi, Tejuosho, Ojuelegba etc and restored a semblance of sanity to these areas. Prior to this these areas were congested, jam-packed, filthy, disorganised and every other negative adjectives you can think of. UNILAG is my alma mater and I always HATED passing through Yaba because of how rowdy that place was. Thank God for Baba Fash who didn't allow sentiments to stop him from doing the right thing, vis clearing off street trading and indiscriminate parking that made these areas hell on earth for Lagosians.

The first world nations we admire so much and are sleeping in their embassies here to hustle their visas (including the Canada you currently reside in) were not built on sentiments. Discipline, courage, accountability and obedience to rules were part of what got them to the positions they occupy in the global scheme of things. Nairaland is a microcosm of Nigeria where users are disregarding rules, posting their ads anyhow and anywhere, spamming the forum and typically being the undisciplined Nigerians they are. Try this _shit in Reddit and see if your account is not permanently banned.

There are sections dedicated for advertorials but no, they must come to this section and dot the cyber landscape with their scams and spams.

Anyway, the blame lies solely on the admin and moderator. RoyalRoy sometimes disappears for weeks on end leaving this section at the mercy of traders, porn_ vendors, trolls, spammers, copy and paste bloggers and other members of the Allied Nuisance.

Justwise transformed Travel section to the most organised section on Nairaland, and if this forum had one mod like him in every section, Nairaland will be a more entertaining and educating site to visit.

Long story short, shove the sentiments aside and stop supporting rubbish.

Oga, there's business section where they can advertise anything they want.

Some sections even have market sub-section eg fashion, tech, autos, real estate etc, let these people look for appropriate sections and advertise their goods there.

Don't mind him. He is telling me about catching his drift. I know his type. When they were in Nigeria they are the kinds who littered the roads with trash, double packed their vehicles on narrow roads and actively sought bribes to do their assigned duties, but now that they have ported to an organised society where rubbish is not tolerated, they obey the rules so that they don't get deported back to the country they contributed their fair share of turning into a shithole.

There are appropriate sections where these folks can post their ads and hustle, but no, he is telling us about them "making 100 naira after posting 100 threads". 100 threads!!! Imagine scrolling through 100 useless threads before seeing just one reasonable thread. Is that one not witchcraft?!

No one is stopping anyone's hustle. Just do it in a way that will not constitute a nuisance to other forum users.

When one person creates ten threads to sell all his or her whatever.

I have pots for sale. . . One thread
Spoon for sale. . .another thread
Pants for sale. . .New thread
Fairly used parachute for sale. . .another new thread.

All cos it's free and unregulated.

Will I patronise such people ? Never.
Nothing stops you from creating a single thread to post whatever it is you are selling without making yourself a nuisance to others.
