A suspected fake soldier was, on Thursday, last week, crushed to death by an articulated vehicle on the Lagos-Ojoo Road, 48 hours to the burial of his father.
The victim, because he put on military camouflage, was thought to be a soldier serving at the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the victim had alighted from his motorcycle, with a view to controlling the traffic at the Ojoo junction but, unfortunately, he was crushed to death by the driver of the articulated vehicle, who refused to comply with his directive to stop.
Eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the usual traffic bottleneck at the Ojoo junction of the road had prompted the “soldier,” who was said to be preparing for the burial ceremony of his father, to park his motorcycle and took up the challenges of controlling the traffic.
According to him, the soldier had stopped the driver of the articulated vehicle, which was loaded with food items like rice, beans and ‘gaari,’ but refused to stop.
The incident was said to have caused pandemonium, as soldiers, on getting to the scene of the incident, set the vehicle ablaze.
When contacted on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olabisi Okuwobi, said the soldiers reacted because they thought the deceased was one of them.
