A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Nuhu Ribadu, has said that the children of the herdsmen and bandits needed to be educated so that they could start a process of rebuilding the country.

Ribadu, a former Presidential candidate, said there was hope for Nigeria despite the current challenges facing the country if only the younger generation could get good education.

The former EFCC chairman spoke on Saturday at the graduation and prize-giving ceremony of the Pacesetters’ Schools in Wuse, Abuja.


The schools graduated 95 college and 98 academy pupils.

Ribadu said, “The younger ones can make a nation out of the country. They can build things. A lot of the things you see today happening in our country are things that young people have no hand in it. Please let these kids be. Give them a chance to be what they want to be. Let them love one another and each. Let them remain as Nigerians.


“I hope that the children of the herdsmen will be able to be like these educated ones. The children of bandits who are terrorising us will be able to be like these educated kids. The children of those who are making lives difficult for all of us can also be like these ones.”

Meanwhile, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and a former Presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party, Kingsley Moghalu, said the younger generation could lead Nigeria to become a better country.


Moghalu, “We are committed to changing this country to become a better place. Nigeria has been devalued by men and women who have no values. That is why we are where we are today.

“All around us in Nigeria, we have prophets of doom. But Nigeria will rise one day and it is your generation that will lead that rise. All hope is not lost but we all must begin to organise ourselves today.”

The School Director, Kenneth Imansuangbon, noted that there was hope for Nigeria if children were adequately educated.

Goodluck Jonathan spent billions building Almajiri schools for them, but they would rather herd cattle and engage in criminality.

Not just the bandits, herdsmen or even boko haram children. The northern children needs to be properly educated. If this is not done, Nigeria will never know peace. If this crop of kids and the almajiris are educated, most of the security situation with northern Nigeria colouration will be eliminated.
Education of the northern kids hold the promise of also immense socio economic benefit to the region and the country at large. If the current trend of out of school children continue, the long term negative implication can only be imagined.

Maybe education will save them from the barbaric status they have intentionally assumed for themselves
