Former chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has mocked the police for summoning singer, Timi Dakolo, and wife, Busola, to answer to cases of criminal conspiracy, falsehood and mischief, Igbere TV reports.

Timi had on Saturday revealed via Instagram that he and his wife have been summoned to Abuja by the police over rape allegations made against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).

In the invitation letter dated Thursday, July 18, the police say they are investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, falsehood and mischief.

Odinkalu, tweeted on Saturday, saying that the police had ‘all of a sudden’ established ‘nonexistent crimes’ against the Dakolo family.

“So all of a sudden @policeNG has case of “falsehood, mischief…”, nonexistent crimes, against @timidakolo?” he said.


Timi Dakolo had said that his family would not be bullied.

The 38-year-old had raised an alarm over the presence of unidentified “strange men” at his Lagos home earlier on Saturday.

A picture he posted on Instagram showed that the men allegedly came in a van with number plate BR932KSF.

After their exit, he shared a video to confirm the safety of himself and his family.

Busola had last month alleged that Fatoyinbo raped her as a teenager in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Fatoyinbo was forced to step down from publicly overseeing COZA because of the allegations against him.

Odinkalu is foolish for making that statement, if a person accuses another person of a crime without having any form of evidence and not even making a police report, such a person would be called for questioning for defamation of character as long as the accused has made a formal complaint to the police.

You have all the right to your opinion but you can express it without an insult.

There is no limitation of time in criminal cases so they can bring it up any time. It may be difficult to prove but they might have some pieces of evidence we are not privy to.

I also think that the Dakolo's knows exactly what lies ahead of them and I think our concern is for the Police to be neautral and impartial in the course of their investigation.

1. You are not in a position to say that there is no evidence because you don't know.

2. We have also read that the Dakolo's have also filed a formal complaint with the police.

The complaint is not about the invitation but it's content. Moreover, the manner it was served is a show of intimidation and bias.

If Fatoyinbo is the one that reported Dakolos to @nigerianpoliceforce they will be the defendant and Fatoyinbo will be the accuser.

Many people approach legal issues with sentiments.
The police have the power to invite anybody for questioning and it doesn't it matter if the case is being investigated from the I.G office.

I suspect Buhari wants to use this to deflect attention from his new Ruga plan if not I don't understand why the police backed the the IG will do this in such a high profile case that is bound to heat up social media

Are you this daft? Or you are pretending to be daft? If only you know the trauma rape victims go through even after many years, you will not be here spewing trash. Any reasonable police force will treat alleged rape victim with emphaty and not intimidation. Some unknown women accused the President of America of sexually harashment, yet the FBI do not go about intimidating these women with police invitation. The common ethic is to vist these victims in there homes for interrogation. Wake up and grow up
