Afcon prize money is very poor. Even match bonuses for Nigerian players for the entire tournament is about twice the prize money given to Nigeria. What are they then competing for? This competition is basically for national pride, not business-wise at all.

Afcon prize money by now should have gone up to as much as $15m or there about. Upon all the sponsorship and television right fees. This people should do better abeg

Here is the money received by teams for the last world cup as prize money

17th-32nd place: $8 million

Ninth-16th place: $12 million

Fifth-Eighth place: $16 million

Fourth place: $22 million

Third place: $24 million

Second place: $28 million

First place: $38 million

What a team that came 32nd in WC (ie poorest performer of those that did not not go beyond group stage) received is almost two times higher than what winner of AFCON received.

The funny thing about football tournament is that while the third-place winner is celebrating, the second- place team is crying; meanwhile, second-place is better than third-place.

It doesn't make any sense if all the participating countries receive money

Nigeria was rewarded in addition with the Silver while Tunisia got no silver
Nigeria got Bronze, Senegal got silver. Precisely that bronze should attract more money than a team that got no medal. In every competition including Olympics, the 4th position gets less Prize money than the bronze medallist/3rd position.
