. No I'm not. These realities were there even before I was born.

Religion made them reject education.

Religion made them reject immunization

Religion made them reject integration

Their elites used religion to prevent them from reasoning for themselves.

Religion made them breed like rats because religion told a man it was ok to marry many wives

Religion made them take up arm's against the state. If you know what goes into the rebuilding of these communities ravaged by terrorism, you would marvel.

I can go on and on...

How did religion make them reject immunization?

Read on how Pfizer conducted clinical trials for Trovan in Kano and the side effects... that's one of the major issues that is still making some Northerners not trust orthodox medicine.

I would not dissect the rest of the daft message.

You are too small-minded, your brain can't process thoughts more complex than your hate.

Quotasystem vedaxacool and fizzination wont see it that way...to them the most important thing in life is that a northerner must be president and that an easterner must be kept far away from aso rock

The thing they dont see is that the poorest igbomen in nigeria are as confortable as average hausa artisans....the poorest hausamen (who are in millions) are beggers and homeless in eastern streets. Thats the only important thing...but they dont see it.
the first two are the worst set of people I have seen,I am sure they are part of the problem. They see nothing wrong.

Might you consider they were intentionally kept ignorant so they could be controlled with religion? I'm suggesting they are victims and not willing compliers in their own exploitation.

The whole crisis in Nigeria is intentional. The politicians want to cage and controlthe citizens and the best way to achieve that is to arm criminals who terrorise the populace.
It is only when you are alive that you will talk about looting of your state resources. The total number of politicians controlling Nigeria are not up to 5000 persons and they determine who gets what hence the Godfathers won't tolerate any deviation from their so called stooges and recycling of failed and dying old men when we have young technocrats who have made it all over the country.

I think Happy would say if "we have young technocrats who have made it all over the country", why is it that they haven't made it to Aso Rock yet?

Education perhaps? "Made it" might not be the main criteria for winning elections. Did you know Dan Fodio's Jihad was against the same oppression?

I subscribed when I said their elites used religion to hold them down. But again, you buddy is Yoruba, I have lived among Yorubas for so long I speak and write fluently the language. One thing I discovered is that if you are a rich man in Yoruba land and you are not seen to be using your wealth for the greater benefits of all, you will loose your goodwill.
Mind you, wealth here could be just intellectual wealth. If you don't deploy it to the common benefits of all, you will loose your goodwill. For Yorubas it is one for all and all for one.
Tinubu knows this and dared not deviate from that pattern or else...

Now take it upnorth, the story is very different. The rich can only throw crumbs to the poor for the poor to chorus rankadede ........

They won't make to ask rock unless there is a revolution.
Imagine what happened in Ekiti, Osun, Rivers and other states where the will of the people were put under serious threat and some citizens of those states were in support of the reprehensive actions because of their selfish interests.

The question is, why? Is it because they love their rich so much? Or because they like being poor and shouting rankadede? Or because stupid isn't educated out of them. Or because stupid is educated into them?

I'm from Osun State. We voted APC to my utter amazement after that useless Aregbe. And as far as I'm concerned, even if they rigged it they only succeeded because they were smarter than the loser.

Solution? Education, I'd propose.

A WAKE-UP CALL AND BLUNT TRUTH TO MY FELLOW NORTHERN BROTHERS.

Written by Hassan Stan-Labo

Bᴀɴᴅɪᴛʀʏ ᴀɴᴅ Bᴏᴋᴏ ʜᴀʀᴀᴍ : Tʜᴇ Nᴏʀᴛʜ sʟᴇᴘᴛ ғᴏʀ ᴛᴏᴏ ʟᴏɴɢ!

"The north must wake up now. It must not murder sleep.

The north saw nothing coming. Population was deemed strength. But it should have watched when others slowed down in breeding. It bred too many children and didn’t do much to care for them. They roamed the streets. Yet, it bred more. They forsook schools. And took to begging . Yet, it bred more. Those children, many of them, have gone feral. Now,the north cannot sleep. The north slept for too long.

Northern politicians lived in bubbles, in distant cities. Some governors literally ruled by ‘Wifi’. When they bothered to return to their state capitals, unemployed youths lined the streets to cheer them. In their narcissism , they said it was popularity. The naive jobless youths in their ignorance, considered them their own share of national big men.

So the northern politicians were safe and happy. They lived like lords, harvesting political rents. Their political estate was the large benighted population of the north whose votes made them national heroes. All they bothered about was winning elections and cornering privileges for their family and their friends.

The north is waking up. But it’s waking in fits and starts.

While it was asleep, corrupt politicians treated education as western adulteration of cherished conservative culture. The north lacked schools and teachers, and lacked hospitals and doctors and nurses. But their leaders couldn’t be bothered. The welfare of the poor was an abstract concept mouthed in campaign speeches.

Young doctors went for national youth service in the north and came back with tales of horror. Children and women died needlessly. Labour got obstructed and prolonged and the nearest hospital with a doctor was hundreds of kilometers away. Youth corps doctors were forced to do caesarean sections. We screamed when we shared the stories amongst ourselves those days.

The governors preferred playing emotional religious politics to building productive human capacity. So while some other parts of the country focused on education, some governors made sharia a project and built a large population of illiterate Almajiris.

And I think the north was pushed into deeper somnolence by tranquilizers like quota system and federal character. You can disagree with me. But I know competition would have awakened the north much earlier.

The north is rising. But it is still groggy.

The traditional institutions and the politicians underestimated the long term consequences of their fixation on electoral contests. Political power brought roads and more local government areas. The Federal Government built a refinery and sited federal institutions in some northern cities. But there was almost no attempt to educate the poor. Children roamed. Schools weren’t properly staffed. The three tiers of government left the smaller towns and rural areas in abject poverty and utter hopelessness. The private sector was absent. There was literally no man power for anything meaningful.

The politicians and retired soldiers cornered positions and oil wells. They rode in their big cars and flew in jets. They built big houses and sent their children to foreign lands for education. They let the ignorant poor to worship them and let them flourish in their ignorance. It all seemed peaceful at least. The rich in Kaduna , Kano and Abuja, played their polo. The poor children in Gamboru couldn’t get vaccines. They had to rely on Bill Gates and foreign charity to get, when they got. Poverty and disease and desertification battered and bruised them. The poor , illiterate and hopeless, in the slums of the big towns, in small towns and in the bushes in the hamlets found solace in religion. Radical preachers sneaked in and taught them comforting extremism.

The chickens are coming home to roost.

Banditry has taken over the parts of the north not ravaged by Boko Haram. Zamfara had once toyed with religious extremism. That former center of religious activism is now the devil’s workshop. Evil became so rife the former governor was ready to negotiate with demons who massacred and burnt whole villages. Children who didn’t go to school, who spent their entire lives in the wild, dragging cattle from Timbuktu to Calabar, had become possessed. They have forsaken religion and embraced the devil. And Zamfara is now thinking a mass literacy programme.

Kaduna, the center of the north has not been spared. Ethnic fault lines have been sharpened by frustration and hopelessness. Politicians had driven wedges between the poor to feather their political nests. Millions of unemployed youths are now finding guns and finding devilish impatience. Violence has mushroomed. And Kaduna is fast acquiring the character of Lebanon.

Our law enforcement agents are working hard. But they are overwhelmed. Law enforcement was designed to check and correct an exceptional few. And not to contain an epidemic of madness. From Benue to Taraba, from Katsina to Zamfara, it’s been violence after violence.

The north is waking up. I believe. But it has to find mental clarity, quickly. The north must institute a comprehensive population control measure. The north has to lock the tap. Mops wont do. The north lacks the resources to care for the children that it is currently producing on an industrial scale. It can’t abolish child malnutrition , Almajiri culture, high infant and maternal mortality until it puts a leash on its birthrate. Until the north checks its population growth rate it cannot check the wild fire of poverty that is ravaging its communities.

The north must wake up now.

Boko haram and rampant banditry have stabbed the north into wakefulness. But the north is waking up only in bits. The north is still sleepwalking.

The north left the tap running for too long. It is now flooded with problems that teeming illiteracy and joblessness create. The north must turn off the running tap first. The north must institute immediate population control. Yes, it will have to curb Almajiri by democratizing education. But it must shut the tap first. Without an effective and immediate population control policy , the north and the country is doomed.

It’s unfortunate it had to get to this. It’s unfortunate it had to take banditry for the north to think mass literacy and abolition of almajiri culture. Yobe has no existing factory. A bulk of the population of the Northeast lives in IDP camps. The future looks bleak . And there is no sense of urgency yet.

Northern billionaires must think industrialization of the north. It must be intentional. The potentials abound. There is a strong youthful population. They can’t wait for Bill Gates and Jimmy Carter.

The north must wake up now. It must not murder sleep again.
I share your honest feelings & passion my brother. You have said the fundamental truth, but will they (the political leaders) listen?

Partly because stupid was educated into them through holding on tight to the archaic religious beliefs which are no longer viable in the 21st century and partly because even those that had ventured out refused to imbibe acceptable global realities of the present century.

Thank you. Though I get to see very many who have imbibed "acceptable global realities of the present century", where they find them acceptable.

I think those who educate stupid into them have been very effective to date and it's about time the curricula changes, and it's those who know better that could achieve this. And if we aren't in charge already then perhaps we go back to school to learn how and be better. Evil must not thrive where lampholders stride! And we should love our neighbours and have no enemies or love them more. At least those who read a Bible should. For though we may separate the wheat from the chaff after it grows, the chaff still reduces the wheat yield if they grow together. And I don't mean kill their religion, but perhaps understand better. The stupid some are being taught is no way godly, and it's definitely not a fruit of Islam.

Talking about those that ventured out, did you see how sanusi was summarily shot down when he started the advocacy of what must be done to correct the anomaly? He was shot down by those who could be called intellects too. Why?

Wrong question. Whether they listen or not is not up to them, and we don't need their "political leaders" because they are the ones peddling stupid instead. What's up to us is our own competence to make our selves heard and make ourselves the leaders. If our product is beneficial to them they sure will follow.

Know that what I propose is not easy. There's this dude we read about who tried it and was crucified for all his effort. But I guess he was turned into God so it must have been worth it so let me borrow from him if I may.

Ye are gods and all of you are children of the most High. Arise, O Gods and Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground and inherit all nations and be most blessed.

P.s. I'm not suggesting turning people into Christians as commonly understood, but proposing abc and 1+1=2. Its what they are being deprived of and that makes them go rankadede instead which they wouldn't if they can read and add.

I will encourage the Yoruba mooslims to embark on a serious nation-wide campaign to educate Nigerians that Islam is indeed a progressive religion.

Attacking me online because I reacted to what I have witnessed first-hand will not change the perception. The brand of Islam practiced in southern Nigeria is so different from the one upnorth.

Religious extremism is the elephant in the room, religion should only be taking at face value, the moment you believe in everything written in some ancient test writing by illiterate the moment you stop reasoning like modern human.

The north would have been progressive and be like south west with religious tolerance between Christians and Muslim if the jihad of Usman Usman fodio didn't happen. Emir sanusi is one of the beneficiaries of the feudal ruling class killing the north, with symbols like him around nothing can change.

Don't mind that hypocrit. Nigeria is a country of two different nations, the southern half will be a comfortable middle income country with a per capita income above $10,000( ppp) without the north. it is country with poverty rate of 6% in Lagos and 80% in zamfara. it is a country of literacy rate of 86% in indo and 46% in kano.

For the first time someone from the North has shaken off the long drowsy feelings that all that matters in the North is being in centre of power. The ops writeup is a clarion call to all good and sane Northerners to open their eyes to see how bad the politicians and religious leaders have forced them to remain in abject poverty of mind, soul and body. You are right when you said competition would have been better than quota system. Yes, of course! Quota system builds lazy society but competition brings innovation, creativity and ideas.
