Bro wake up. This isn't 19th century.....

You can do it.

Someone rightly advised you to start a private lesson...

Give yourself a nice brand and look for those who can pay you well (make flyers, get recommendations, targeted Facebook ads...)

Get digital skill that'll help boost your potential

Reach out to businesses around you, many needs help but don't always put vacancies out

Just get out of your comfort zone, its not easy but please don't make it worse. ..

Hello Writer, I just laughed after reading your epistle because I once passed thru this phase of life. I was squatting with my sister in 2014 and teaching as well. But today, God changed my story for good... My advise to you is that you should keep pushing and never you forget God Almighty. Keep praying and ensure you pay your TITHE. Also, learn to sow dangerous seed and you will see things working for your favour. God bless you.
You well soo??

Take the following steps if your 30yrs and below .

Apply to any of these microfinance banks as a loan officer asap.

Accion
Abmfb
Lapo
Microcred/baoba
Primera
''''''::::::::
none of these companies pay less than 50k.

You will gain valuable experience and be able to move to other bigger coys. But your teaching experience won't do you any good and you would get tired eventually

Nb, these companies recruit evey six months and staff turn over is very low in n that sector.

Ultimately,fast and pray

All will be well.

Our problem is that we don't want to use our brain. Let me advice you , go and work for poultry Factory. No matter what you are been paying because you are not there for money but skill. Then after 3 months resign and start your own. I bet you if you put your mind into it before 2 years you would be able to employ 2 graduates.

I looked back at the beginning of this year, precisely 14th January 2019 when I started working at a private primary school. Three weeks later, I was told that I had to be taking two primary five students extra lessons after closing (3pm), and the pay was 1k each. With my monthly salary which was 13,000 added to the "1k" each makes 15 thousand.

You would think I earned 13k for three months abi! No I didn't. The first salary I got was the half of 13k. The woman just called the staff on the 28th of January and gave me 6.5k. I had no idea what was going on and I thought she was going to balance up at the beginning of February just like she said while addressing us but it was a lie. it was at the end of the term, the third month April, that I got to know I am being ripped off. She said she was going to pay 5000 naira at the end of the term as salary because school opened for just 10 days. It was the greatest shock of my life. A graduate, a grown up man like me, taking 5000 naira home!!
I wanted to leave but I couldn't because I wouldn't be paid for the common entrance lesson and I had not gotten any other opportunities elsewhere.

Sometimes in early February, She called me that I would be handling primary 5 Common entrance lessons which is meant to hold every Saturday and at the end of the third term the money will be shared between Me, a staff that partners me and the proprietress. She said the money will be shared 60%(I and another man) to 40%(the proprietress). The formula was very unfair and strange to me. The sharing formula seemed very strange to me and I challenged it but she enforced it.

Fast forward to early this month, precisely 3rd of July, the proprietress started acting strange and insulting all the workers and all that. The following week she sent one of the oldest staff by to inquire what will be the staff reaction if they are not paid at the end if the term. The staff said they won't agree to such and some even threaten various actions. Fast forward to Thursday 25th of July, vacation day. the woman started up a plethora of complaints deliberately she said she was going to pay 4000 as July salary. The same thing she did at the end of second term. At the end she ended up not paying a dime. She didn't pay any of us. Not even the common entrance lesson which made me stay.

I cried and stayed inside throughout Friday. I had a deep thinking, with my academic background! Was it that I didn't know my worth? with all my struggles to be successful academically I am now slaving in one private school for a paltry sum of 15k, money wey I no fit cope with as an undergraduate! Money wey be say no reach my NYSC allawe!
I really feel for graduates going through phases like this. I really feel for graduates teaching at private schools. I pray better days finds you and I soon.

On a serious note, some of dis private schools use dia teachers as European Imperialists used African slaves.Op,I wore de same shoe with you sometimes ago.Everytime de proprietor will be complaining of no money expecially close to 3rd term exams prior to the long vacation. And i was given a burden of three subjects to carry only me.You can imagine de slavery! One day,I went into de classes one by one asking de students to present dia fees payment receipt odawise dey will be sent home.To my greatest surprise, out of 40,40 students per class, dat abt 35-37 students in each of de classes presented dia receipts showing full payment. Some classes like JS1,3 n SS2 even have A-C sections.I den calculated de money n realized dat only JS3 alone can pay our(all de staff) paltery stipends conveniently for de 3 months dat made up a term.Yet de man refused paying for dat month of closing going into de long vacation.Out of annoyance n frustration,I held him tightly on his tie till he called me personally to his office n pay me.He den urged me not to tell de rest dat I have been paid.
Thank God now,God has given me a well-paid job.
So God will help you very soon my bros.

It's unfortunate you are teaching in a school that count days of work, some don't even pay August salary claiming it's holiday period. Well I dnt see anything wrong starting small. I started like that about 7years ago earning 15k, (I just needed to have money to apply for jobs wherever, whenever) but with home lessons I earned more. The experience took me to a better school in all ramifications that pays complete salary all year round but it didn't stop me from applying to better organizations. Though I must admit I worked at schs where I enjoyed freedom of movement, most schs are prisons, ones u r in, u can't leave till close of day. I'm in a better place now, the experiences helped though, it's just a matter of time, na turn by turn, it can only get better. Just make sure you don't lose focus

But I am done now, he's with my last month's salary, but he is gonna pay. No doubt!

I was a victim of this wicked system back in the days. Even though I was heady and refused to submit lesson plans, I still taught maths, further maths and physics for 20k for one year.

By the end of the year I told myself one truth: 'if all I do everyday is sleep at home, I'll have more dignity than teach in that school.'

I left the school even when I didn't have anything doing. That was the best decision I ever took. I tried talking sense to some of my colleagues then but they wouldn't listen. To this day some of them still teach.

When I left, I printed private tutoring fliers and distributed around churches and hung on streets. Registered with online tutoring platforms like tuteria and others...

It didn't take long before I started getting calls. I tutored in the evening after school while learning data analytics morning and night. I had excess time.

By the time I was leaving tutoring, I tutored a minster's child and other affluent individuals. I was making 5 figures just tutoring. I had worth while connections. I only stopped tutoring because it was time to get off my comfort zone.

My advice to anyone graduate teaching in a private school is, leave right now. The sooner you left the easier.
Good luck in your next endeavor.

I laugh at all these stories....But really teachers are undervalued....I don't know if it's because my mom is a teacher or i just respect them but i think they ought to be in "The Top Three Highest Paid Profession" if not highest paid.
In Finland teachers are among the highest paid. But to qualify as a teacher there takes serious scrutiny. This is one of the reasons Nigeria is not doing well and may not do well. Education is all important.

Some employers are pure evil, you will see them buying cars, building houses and investing but to pay their workers is always a pain in their neck.

that is the perfect discription of my formal place of work(private sch) b4 God picked my call for a federal job this year. The proprietor is very cruel , even cruel is understatement he is notorious. He underpay and own staffs salary for months, he fornicate with female staffs, he use all manner of derogatory words on staffs at will as if he is dashing them money he never knew they are rendering service and they deserve to be paid their entitlement, work overload of more than 24 periods for a teacher of a school population of over 450 students, you must mark their notes every week else you will be sack without payment of arrears, very toxic working environment couple with hectic work. Staffs work in fears. You can't travel even if your mother dead, students must not fail your subject, you must worship him and his family, the man is full of pride and arrogant, he leaves lavish life style while his staffs leave in abject poverty. I have never teach in my life until I got a job there a year ago after my nysc. That school made me hate private schools . the brutalities convince me that my hatred is justified. When I got the federal just at one of the federal agency I never bordered to tender resignation, I left without informing him. Indomitable genius some where in ondo state. That place is hell on earth
