Alternative problem resolution approach:

O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah , witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do. [Suratul Maidah, Qur'an 5:8].

What can you do to correct your Masjid Imam who isn't competent enough, regarding the correct way of reciting the Qur'an or embracing the Sunnah over Bid'ah or the other usual issues?

It's clear you have to work towards a change, agreed. Unfortunately, sermonizing and admonishing doesn't seem to be working. Also, you can't just "scatter everything and let everyone go their separate ways".

My suggestion: Why not bring like minds like yours together. Then get each one of you to commit towards pooling funds together to institute a consistent monthly salary for the position of the Imam.

Ensure it is a decent sum. Now, you can attach the conditions that reflect the necessary adjustments needed.

Trust me, the Imam will surely conform or he would have others who will rise up to take the challenge of conforming to the conditions. Just don't take sides here. Infact, troway face. But let it be known that the offer stands, as long as the conditions are satisfied.

Either way, change will come.
