Nigerians will soon get to spend less on good cars as leading French automaker Renault is set assemble two vehicles at low cost in conjunction with Cosharis – its local partner. This was disclosed in a statement released by the car giant on Thursday, July, 18, 2019.

Currently controlling 18% share of the auto market in Africa, the company seeks to cater to opportunities presented by the rising middle class in countries such as Nigeria that has over 200 million population.

Assembly of the vehicles, Duster and Logan will be done at the Coscharis auto plant located in Lagos come October 2019.

Actually, the news was partly leaked out at the beginning of the month, as reported in Naijauto previous article, but the official announcement by Renault has just been made earlier this week.

Cosharis is visible in different facets of the Nigerian economy including information technology, autos, logistics, health, real estate, agriculture and food. The company started assembling vehicles back in 2015. Over the years, it has been able to grow a network throughout the country with five dealerships based in Lagos.


Renault also intends to bring in two other models – the Oroch pickup from Duster Brazil and the entry-level crossover Kwid. Coscharis will be in charge of distributing all the vehicles.

As of today, the auto company is fully present in African countries including South Africa, Morocco, Egypt and Algeria.
