A video has recently surfaced on twitter which showed the Nigerian soldiers battling what seem like Boko Haram terrorists with old, barefly functional guns. Shared by Farooq Kperogi on twitter, He wrote: “These 3 undated videos (1 min. 22 secs in all) of Nigerian soldiers battling what seem like Boko Haram terrorists with old, barefly functional guns tell you why our soldiers are sitting ducks for BH & why they're hurriedly buried in mass, unmarked graves, as d Wall Street Journal”. That is a Medium Duty Machine Gun. It doesnt matter how old it is, it is still very effective. If you think its outdated, go and stand in front of it. When it comes to Guns, Age doesnt necessarily matter. The M1911 is over a 100 years old and still a very good gun. The AK 47 came out in 1947 and is still extremely relevant. 1 Like |

Why anyone would sign up to be a soldier in today's Nigeria is simply beyond me. Talk about obsolete ammunition, corruption in the force, sabotage, inadequate remuneration etc. It's just crazy. I feel for those guys and they deserve our prayers. |

That's an FN MAG 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun which was first designed in 1950 and got adopted by the Nigerian Army during the civil war .. I don't know how old this particular piece is but belt fed Jams are a usual occurrence if the feed line is not kept straight like I saw in this video |

JonDon12:Where have you heard or learnt the bolded nonsense you wrote up there? When it comes to animal hunting, you can use your locally made rifle but not in war. How many rounds can those nonsense go without jamming? For one to be a good soldier, one has to have necessary gadgets and good ones at that. |
