Finally, Army Reacts To Killing Of Keke Rider In Aba

The Nigerian Army has denied killing of a Keke Rider in Aba on Wednesday, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that a Keke rider, identified as Mr. Chimaobi Nwaogu, was allegedly killed by soldiers stationed in the Ogborhill axis of Aba for failing to give #100.00 naira bribe.

In a statement by the Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division, Aliyu Yusuf, the army debunked the report, saying that the killing was perpetrated by unknown gunmen in military camouflage.

The army noted that it is pertinent to state that the rumours trending in the social media that the man was killed by a soldier for refusing to give a bribe of #100.00 naira is false untrue and misleading.

The statement reads,

"The attention of 82 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to a violent incident involving an individual identified as MR CHIMOBI NNAORGU who allegedly lost his life from a gun shot injury inflicted on him by unknown gunmen suspected to be a cultist in camouflage T.SHIRT at UMUOKERE NGWA COMMUNITY IN OBINGWA LGA OF ABIA STATE on Wednesday 7 AUGUST 2019."

"This incident resulted in a breakdown of law and order as youths in the community took law into their hands by burning down houses. Troops of 144 Battalion with the assistance of other security agencies have calm down the situation."

"I wish to state categorically that 82 Division troops deployed for any operation do not brutalised law abiding innocent citizens in line with Nigerian Army code of conduct for internal security operations. It is pertinent to state that the rumours trending in the social media that the man was killed by a soldier for refusing to give a bribe of #100.00 naira is false untrue and misleading.

"While investigation is on going to unravel the perpetrator of this criminal act, our heartfelt prayers are with the family and loved ones of Mr CHIMOBI.May God grant them the fortitude to to bear this irreparable loss."

"You are please requested to disseminate this information to the general public through your medium."

Igbere TV reported that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State through his Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi, Ikpeazu called on the citizens and residents of the affected areas to remain calm, peaceful and not take the law into their hands.

He said the government is already engaging relevant agencies to establish the identities of those involved in the reported incident with a view to ensuring adequate punishment for whoever is found culpable.

I keep saying it, these men in uniform be it police or army are deadlier than the real criminals be it robbers or herdsmen. Atleast Miyetti Allah always accepts the killings perpetrated by their members.

My heart bleeds as I read this trash. My heart is heavy! The military is denying a crime committed by their own. That's why I don't have sympathy for any military officer killed by boko haran. Along ohanze, Onitsha Ngwa and ikot ipkene axis , you need to know how the military have become a torn on the flesh of Okada riders, collecting #100 each time you pass any of their checking points whether you carry passenger or not. Even if you carry a passenger that will pay you #100, they wouldn't mind because they don't care about your explanation, just tender your #100 and leave.
