Nigeria's MEND Repeats Warning To Abuja's Residents http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20101019-704080.html .Article .EmailPrinter FriendlyShare: facebook ↓ More. .StumbleUponDiggTwitterYahoo BuzzFarkRedditLinkedIndel.icio.usMySpace Text LONDON (Dow Jones)--A spokesman for the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, also known as MEND, Tuesday repeated a warning of possible attack in Nigeria's capital of Abuja, after a previous threat didn't materialize. In an e-mail to the media, Jomo Gbomo, a pseudonym, said: "We hereby repeat our warnings to the residents of Abuja, the heart of the country and to all persons who will be interested in attending the political [presidential campaign] organised by the president Goodluck Jonathan." Nigeria president Jonathan, who stepped in after the death of his predecessor Umaru Yar'adua, is a candidate for presidential elections due January 2011. Gbomo Friday threatened a new bombing in Abuja over the arrest of MEND's alleged leader, Henry Okah, in South Africa, but no attack appears to have taken place since. Okah, ex-leader of MEND, was arrested a few weeks ago in Johannesburg, a day after twin car bombings in Nigeria's capital Abuja killed 12 people. Okah has denied any involvement in the car bombings, according to his lawyers. Key MEND commanders have accepted the amnesty, but some fighters refused to lay down arms, saying the deal was a "charade" that failed to address the key issues of under-development and injustice in the delta. -By Benoit Faucon, Dow Jones Newswires; +44-20-7842-9266; benoit.faucon@dowjones.com |

http://saharareporters.com/news-page/mend-repeats-warning-abuja-residents MEND Repeats Warning To Abuja Residents Posted: October 19, 2010 - 13:12 Posted by siteadmin By SaharaReporters, New York The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has issued a new alert requesting stoppage to all forms of media enquiries to it as a result of what it described as "security concerns". MEND also repeated its warnings to Abuja residents not to attend President Jonathan's political gatherings. The statement appeared hurriedly written but it came from MEND's traditional e-mail address. See full text of press release issued by "Jomo Gbomo": Out of security concerns, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta MEND until further notice will no longer entertain any enquires.Henceforth,we will release to the media only warnings and statements of claim. We hereby repeat our warnings to the residents of Abuja, the heart of the country and to all persons who will be interested in attending the political campaign organised by the president Goodluck Jonathan. This is due to the split he has initiated in our country that had enjoyed a united front politically, and the corruption and split in the Niger Delta community. Lastly, the arrest and detention of our respected brothers of the land and the assassination of their character has become a great concern that cannot be ignored. Jomo Gbomo. |

Once upon a time Bro Goodluck was advised to criticise all forms of political violence, he refused because he was not the target then. Now the chicken has come home to roost, lets see how he responds. |

@ topic it's quite obvious jomo gbomo's persona is being based on the character of dedan kimathi the kenyan. the modus operandi is also the same- forced or voluntary initiations at shrines, coercion, intimidation of the local populace, secret societies, forced allegiance to a guerilla/militaristic agenda based on tribal affiliation, etc etc. too much foreign interference in nigeria from all over, seriously. this stuff has gotten way out of contol. it's also quite obvious the agents of confusion have infiltrated quite deeply. |

All of the ex-militant leaders have come out,Okah is caught and in the hands of the authorities, and there is no more militants in the creeks anymore. GJ, a niger-delta indigene is going for presidency buy "MEND" is against him from reaching that goal so they are threating to bomb key presidential events, hmmmm. Doesn't make sense to me. No more attacks of oil facilities but arent they the ones drailing the oil from the ND?. Why would they make such a move that would help them get what theyv'e been crying for. I know why "BECAUSE ITS NOT MEND, JOMO GBOMO IS NO MORE". This is the works of desperate northerners. |
Re: Jomo Gbomo - Is The Presidency Chasing A Ghost ! ! ! ! by Nobody: 2:58pm On Oct 19, 2010 |
chyz: Because MEND's agenda was never about Niger-Delta development. It was always about their pockets and Goodluck paid some and left some out. The ones that were not paid are fighting. 1 Like |

He is not chasing ghost because at the time when the real MEND was formed . . . henry okah was the one in charge of public relations (email ). So all the other mend members do not know him except henry okah. It could be him or a team of people managing the email correspondence with the media as jomo gbomo is a pseudonym . When all these are analyzed clearly then we can rightly conclude that these resent war is not about the Niger-Delta but opposition to goodlucks presidency. |
