Former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Joe Abah, has said that he does not feel safe anymore after three policemen were killed by soldiers in Taraba State.

Police said on Wednesday that policemen from the Intelligence Response Team who were taking a kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu, to the command headquarters in Jalingo were attacked by soldiers, Igbere TV reports.

They said three officers were shot dead while the suspect was set free, but the army countered the claim, saying the policemen were mistaken for kidnappers.

“I feel more vulnerable now than I ever did. If the lack of coordination between Police and Army could lead to the death of 3 policemen & the escape of an alleged kidnapper, and it continues into a Twitter fight even after the President has set up an inquiry, how can I feel safe?” Abah said in a tweet on Friday.

He added: “While the show of shame between the @PoliceNG and @HQNigerianArmy continues, let us not forget the grief of the families of the slain policemen. May the officers rest in peace and may God strengthen their families to bear the loss and to seek justice.”

Abah had on July 10 revealed his expectations in President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office.

He said he was hoping to see “major, disruptive and transformative interventions in electricity, jobs, security and education”, adding that incremental progress in the aforementioned areas would not be sufficient for him.
