Jesus Is Not Different From Yeshua by FelixIshola(m): 12:42pm On Aug 16, 2019
In recent times, some people are saying that Jesus is not the Son of God; that Jesus is a character created 400 years ago by some conspiracy, that Jesus is a roman god, and that Jesus is not the Saviour of the world.

According to them, Jesus is an impostor who impersonates Yeshua, the real and authentic Son of God and Saviour of the world. At first I wanted to just snub them (they actually deserve to be snubbed) but reading some comments by people who are genuinely confused has prompted me to respond to those buffoons.

For those who are bothered by those foolish utterances, my message to you is simple: ignore them! They are simply showing their buffoonery; don’t let them disturb you in any way. If you observe some of the perpetuators of this lie, you will notice that something is tragically wrong with their thinking processes. This latest outburst is just one of the various ways by which they give expression to their personal confusions and inner frustrations.

Jesus and Yeshua are not different persons and they are not different names. The two words are one; they are the same name of the same person expressed in different languages. The English form, ‘Jesus’ came from the Greek rendering of the Hebrew name ‘Yeshua’ or ‘Yehoshua’ (in full). Yeshua (or Yehoshua) is a compound word from two Hebrew words, ‘Yehovah’, meaning ‘God’ and ‘Yasha’ meaning ‘to be safe or free or delivered’. So, Yeshua means ‘God saves’ or ‘God is salvation’.

‘Yeshua’ when transliterated into Greek becomes ‘Iesous’, from where the English ‘Jesus’ is derived. The Greek, ‘Iesous’ is not a translation for the Hebrew, ‘Yeshua’; it is a transliteration. In other words, the Hebrew ‘Yeshua’ was represented using corresponding letters in the Greek alphabet. ‘Yeshua’ written in Greek is ‘Iesous’. Both is the same name, they have the same meaning, and they refer to the same person.

There is no word in Greek that corresponds sufficiently to capture the depth of meaning that the Hebrew Word ‘Yeshua’ contains. So, rather than use a Greek word that ruins its depth, the writers decided to use the exact word in its Greek equivalent. They simply presented ‘Yeshua’ in its Greek form, using the Greek letters to form ‘Iesous’ (Jesus).

If the New Testament had been written in Hebrew, the word Yeshua (Hebrew) would have been used instead of Iesous (Greek); and the English would have rendered it as Joshua instead of Jesus. In the English language, we have two different forms of that same name: one from its Hebrew form and the other from the Greek. Joshua is the English version of the Hebrew form, ‘Yeshua’ while Jesus is the English version of the Greek form, ‘Iesous’.

Transliteration of names and other words from Hebrew to Greek did not start with the writers of the New Testament; it had been a practice long before them.

Because of the wider scope of the Greek language, the Jews at a point began writing in Greek instead of in Hebrew, and that was long before the Lord Jesus Christ came.

They produced a sizeable body of literature in the Greek language because of its spread and far-reaching effect which was above the Hebrew language. The most significant of such literature was the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Old Testament. 72 Jewish scholars produced that Greek version of the Old Testament in 72 days under the sponsorship of Ptolemy Philadelphus (the Ptolemaic Pharaoh who ruled from 283 BC to 246 BC). The translation became known as ‘Septuagint’, the Latin word for 70 and ‘LXX’ the Roman numeral for 70 is used as the abbreviation for it.

In that material (the Septuagint), the name of Joshua (the Old Testament Joshua) was rendered as Iesous. So, before Jesus came at all, the Greek form of His name had been Iesous. The New Testament writers followed this established pattern and there was no confusion about it at all. No one saw Yeshua as different from Iesous.

‘Jesus’ is the current English form of the Greek ‘Iesous’. The earliest English form of the name was not even different from the Greek.

You see, language and its expressions change over time. The English language has not always been the way we know it to be today. Things change as language move from one generation to another. If you check ancient English versions of the Bible, you will find the name, Jesus written as Iesus because they did not have the letter ‘J’ that we now have. This does not in any way reduce the efficacy or the correctness of the word ‘Jesus’.

If you know the history of the English language, you will know that there was a time that the letter ‘U’ was pronounced as a ‘V’ while letter ‘V’ was pronounced as ‘U’. If you did not know that, it will be a shock to you. So, please don’t let us complicate life for ourselves. I will now quote Matthew 1:1 in two ancient biblical texts. Notice their expressions and appreciate the amount of change that has happened to our beloved English language:

This is the booke of the generation of Iesus Christ, the sonne of Dauid, the sonne of Abraham. (Matthew 1:1 – Bishop’s Bible 1568)

The booke of the generation of Iesvs Christ the sonne of Dauid, the sonne of Abraham. (Matthew 1:1 – Geneva Bible 1587)

Did you notice the way book, Jesus, son, and David were spelt? Clearly different from the way we do, yet it is the same English language, only in the ancient form.

I believe I have been able to help somebody with this information. Jesus was not created some 400 years ago by some conspiracy, Jesus is not a roman god (check roman history for yourself, you will not see any idol by the name of Jesus), Jesus is not an impostor of Yeshua; Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

And the Greek presentation ‘Iesous’ (Jesus) did not come from Romans or Europeans; it came from Greek speaking Jews who found the way to write the same name, Yeshua in Greek alphabet.

Don’t let the different language renderings of His name confuse you. Yehoshua HaMoshiach in Hebrew is Iesous Christos in Greek, Jesus Christ in English, Jesucristo in Spanish, Jesus Cristo in Portuguese, Yesu Almasihu in Hausa, Jisus Kraist in Igbo, Jesu Kristi in Yoruba and so on. Praise God!

Finally, the power in the Name is not in the letters but in the Spirit. In other words, the power is not in the five letters, J-E-S-U-S; it is in the Person that the name represents. This is why we can call the Name in several languages and still get the same result. There are many Spanish and Portuguese speaking people who bear the name Jesus and many of those people are not even saved.

So, the power is not in the verbal pronunciation of Jesus or Yeshua; it is in the spiritual connectivity with that divine Person who died on the cross and rose from the dead after three days. If that is the Person you are talking about when you say, ‘in Jesus name’, there will inevitably be a flow of power and the manifestation of the supernatural. But if you are shouting ‘Jesus’ or ‘Yeshua’ with just the letters in your mind; your words will be empty and powerless.

The person to whom your spirit is connected when you mention the name (in whatever language) is what determines the impact of the name in your mouth. Thank You.

Good job OP.

I wrote a similar article in link below. But every time I try to upload the concluding part, I get banned by Nairaland without breaking any rule.

https://www.nairaland.com/4827059/refuting-reno-omokri-daddy-freeze

The New Testament was written in Greek by the Apostles. They wrote the name of our saviour as Iesous from which we derived Jesus. Since we gentiles where given Iesous as our saviour's name, to hell with whoever is trying to make us use the Hebrew name.

Jesus doesn't care what name you call him. He's only concerned about you obeying and following his word, which if you do, you will be termed wise.

Matthew 7:24-27 (KJV)
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

We are to hold on to what the Apostle who walked the earth with Jesus gave us, not what someone born in the 70s is trying to sell to us.

The worst part is that if you ask all those who are proponents of the Hebrew name of Jesus to tell us the name, you will see how inaccurate they are. Some will say Yeshua, Yahushua, Yehoshua, Yahoshua, Yahshua etc. Which one is it exactly? They do not known, yet they say that must be the name above every other name.

Guess what? We already have the name above every other name and it is Iesous Kristos i.e Jesus Christ which was given to us by the disciples.

The people behind the movement towards the Hebrew name of Jesus are actually evil men belonging to secret cults and Jewish Kabalah. They know how power the name Jesus is, so they throw in everything to discredit it and confuse Christians.

Some of them include Antichrist called Daddy Freeze and Reno Omokri.

Matthew 24:1-2 (KJV)
1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

As seen above, the disciples showed Jesus the BUILDINGS of the temple which must have included every fence and wall. What did Jesus say? He said not one stone will be left standing on another when they get destroyed. Jesus was making it clear that the temple would be destroyed because God will no longer have need for it because He will now dwell in humans instead of temples.

Yet, Pastor Reno Omokri who claims to know the Bible could be seen going to the fraud called a wailing wall to seek the presence of God. He believes that the wailing wall is actually what's left of the demolished temple. He believes the lie over the words of Jesus Christ who said "There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down". The wailing wall today is what's actually left of the Antonia Fortress built by the Roman soldiers who destroyed the Temple. Reno Omokri has clearly rejected the words of the one whom he professes to follow and has gone to join judaism which is an Antichrist religion in that it rejects Jesus as the messiah/Christ.

How about we go back further, to the earliest English translation we have of the Gospels? The Wessex Gospels is from 990, and here's their rendering of Matthew 1:1:
