Man City (Possible, 4-3-2-1): Hart; Boateng, K Toure, Kompany, Lescott; De Jong, Barry, Silva, Milner; Adebayor, Tévez. Arsenal (Possible, 4-2-3-1): Fabianski; Eboué, Squillaci, Koscielny, Clichy; Song, Fabregas; Nasri, Diaby, Arshavin; Chamakh. Referee: Mark Clattenburg. Matches: 7. R1. Y20. Tale of the game In midweek Arsenal enjoyed an emphatic 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, but one of the scorers, Jack Wilshere, is unavailable for the Premier League trip to Eastlands following his dismissal, last weekend, against Birmingham. Arsenal will also be aware that they have scored only four of their 18 goals this season away from home and they have gone six matches since they last kept a clean sheet. Along with Wilshere, the visitors will also arrive at the City of Manchester Stadium without key players such as miss Bacary Sagna (thigh), Thomas Vermaelen (Achilles), Robin van Persie (ankle) and Aaron Ramsey (broken leg). And Manuel Almunia is again doubtful with an elbow problem. City’s former Arsenal defender Kolo Toure missed the 3-2 win at Blackpool on Sunday but he could return from a hamstring strain. And another former Gunner, Emmanuel Adebayor, returned to attack at Blackpool and could retain his place as City look to put pressure on League leaders Chelsea. City sit in second place behind Chelsea, just two points behind the reigning Barclays Premier League champions. But midfielder Yaya Toure, absent last weekend with a knee problem, is unlikely to return in time while Aleksandar Kolarov (ankle) and Mario Balotelli (knee) are still missing. Arsenal have gone 10 games since they were last involved in a goalless draw and they have a reasonable record at City over the years. In a total of 82 visits, Arsenal have won 32, lost 30 and drawn 20. And in the Barclays Premier League, the Gunners have won nine and drawn one of 13 visits. Last season: City 4 Arsenal 2, Arsenal 0 City 0. Stat of the game: Arsenal have gone 10 games since they were last involved in a goalless draw. Match |

I'm expecting Arsene to field a strong team capable of claiming all 3 points tomorrow. The worst we can leave City stadium with is a draw. Man City shouldn't think they can outplay us like they did Liverpool or Chelsea. We'll give them a run for all that expensive piece of sh¡t they're worth. |
Re: Manchester City Vs Arsenal [0 - 3] On Sun. 24th October 2010 by tevez32: 6:49am On Oct 23, 2010 |
I see you gunners are confident of a draw and maybe victory. It is going to be tough as you have Van Persie, Vermaelan, Almunia, Sagna, Frimpong, Koscielny & Ramsey all injured and will not play. City welcome back Kolo Toure, Balotelli, Kolorov as well as ADEBAYOOOOOR who scored 3 on Wednesday. In the past 4 meetings between the clubs City have won 3 and drawn 1. You need to ditch your beloved gunners and realise that MANCHESTER CITY will be crowned king. |

For Arsene Wenger, it is the league table that does not bear analysis. And for Arsenal it is an embarrassment, a shameful exposure of their vulnerability. In the mini-league of title contenders, the games in which the big beasts of the Premier League are pitted against each other, they are bottom by some distance. Against genuine title aspirants - Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City - Arsenal are invariably found wanting. Not good enough: Arsenal's record is dismal Last season they lost five out of six of those games, conceding 14 goals and scoring just four. It has become their Achilles heel, exposed again three weeks ago when they were dispatched in familiar fashion by Chelsea, a 2-0 defeat when they were again undone by incisive counter-attacks after failing to finish their chances and losing their defensive shape in midfield. And it is a weakness the manager, staff and players feel keenly as they prepare to visit City today, another side who will defend deep and attempt to strike on the counter- attack. Arsenal winger Theo Walcott said: 'These are the games we'll be judged on at the end of the season. These are the ones that will put us in our spot. I was injured for the Chelsea game but the lads played very well. It's just putting it into the net, and that's the next test. But it doesn't matter how well we play, as long as we get that result against the big teams. 'If everyone gets their jobs right against City, we'll have a great chance. We can catch them on the counter. It will be a slow game at times, but with our pace, we can catch them on the break. WHY ARSENAL CANNOT WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE In the last two seasons (2008-present), Arsenal’s record in clashes with the other Premier League title challengers is dreadful. Against the three other teams in the ‘new big four’, their win ratio drops to just 18%, compared with Wenger’s overall 51% as Arsenal manager. ARSENAL’S RECORD IN THE NEW ‘BIG FOUR’ (since 2008) P W D L F A WIN% v Chelsea 6 1 0 5 4 14 17% v Man Utd 6 1 1 4 5 10 17% v Man City 5 1 1 3 4 10 20% TOTAL 17 3 2 12 13 34 18% 'Our defensive record was not good, which is why we decided to change the way we play,' said Wenger, though his analysis was that it was a midfield weakness that exposed his back four and it was that which forced a changed to a threeman midfield last season. 'For a while, after Emmanuel Petit, Patrick Vieira and Gilberto went, we were a bit open in the middle. We strengthened defensive midfield but it was not enough to improve. I feel we have to improve the defence this season. In order to win the league, it is important. We conceded 42 goals last year and that is far too many. You can't go over 25 or 28 goals to win the league.' Yet Wenger's application of a threeman midfield is a liberal re-interpretation of the current trend of starting with two holding midfielders and one attacking force. For in Wenger's world, a holding midfielder has the freedom to push on. Roberto Mancini's City, by contrast, are likely to start with three defensive midfielders today, in Nigel de Jong, Yaya Toure and Gareth Barry. 'I have considered playing two holding midfielders and I have done it,' said Wenger. 'But we have the players who can be defensive and offensive, for example Jack Wilshere, Abou Diaby and Denilson. When you compare their defensive record with the typical defensive holding players, you will see that the number of balls intercepted by them is higher than a typical holding midfielder. We do not restrain the players when they win the ball back. 'This is also one of our strengths. When we score five or six goals it's because we have the positive side to our game, and to restrain that is to take the quality away. Also, if we want to not attack, people will be bored at our stadium and will say, "Why do we pay a lot of money for this?"' True enough, but supportive as they are, Arsenal fans are just as likely to complain about the absence of trophies and the gaps in midfield evident in the most recent defeat against Chelsea. 'Sometimes I agree that maybe it is a little extreme on offensive,' said Wenger. 'But we are working to try to improve defensively.' The first test of that will come today at Eastlands.
