Infrastructure is the basic structures and facilities necessary for a country or state to function efficiently, while in Ondo state, there is massive infrastructure development with the goal of sparking economic growth and improvements for the standard of living of the people. These Development has been experienced in transportation, water/ utility, energy, science and technology, health sectors, regular payment of salaries and pension arrears, good roads network, education, etc.


This industrial development going on in Ondo state has improved efficiency and productivity in the state. For example, the Ondo Linyi textile, cassava Ethanol Factory, trucks and tricycles assemblage plant, paper mill, plywood factory etc. The Ondo state industrial park has provided 20,000 employments for the youths in the state. The massive constructions of Ore overhead bridges which will link roads on the express way to Lagos, Benin and Ondo town will serve as infrastructural support for Ore which is the new industrial hub in the south west. When these multi-billion naira constructions are completed, it will reduce traffic in that axis and it will also allow business people to travel from the east to the south west in less hours.


The importance of infrastructure to the Ondo state economy cannot be over emphasize, thereby making development key to the survival of the Ondo state people. For example, the medical equipment worth 4.5million dollar donated to the state by a United States-based medical firm Medicare will help boost health care in the state. This will reduce maternal mortalities in the 18 local government areas of Ondo state. The state government had also partnered a Chinese company to set up an herbal center in the state to promote herbal medicine. This will also help to promote the Herbal medicine market in the state.


The construction and improvement of foundational services with the goal of upgrading economic growth and improvements in quality of life in Ondo state is also seen in the Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU), the Governor signed with the private office of a member of the Dubai’s ruling family, His Highness Sheikh Dalmook Al Maktoum, for sea ports and infrastructural development in Ondo state.


The proposed port in Ondo will change the landscape and the Economic Valve of the state. The port will open up Ondo state to the world and access to the hinterland of Nigeria, significant employment opportunities, acquisition of new skills by the labor force, improvement of businesses, valve added to the lives of the Ondo state people, it will Increased the IGR Ondo state, there will be infrastructural development, it will complement Ondo state free trade zone, it will facilitate global transit of goods, there will be equipment in and out of Ondo State. This will also speed up economic growth within a short period of time, as most Companies will either relocate or open offices in Ondo state. Unemployment will be a thing of past.


The Direct benefits of the infrastructure development booming in Ondo state has increased wages through job creation, while there is huge rural economic growth across the 18 local government areas in the state. The increase in income and associated consumption of the poor has a profound impact on poverty reduction as standards of living are increased.


After the MOU with His Highness Sheikh Dalmook Al Maktoum the federal government announced plans to construct a seaport in Ondo State. A right step in the right direction.


Infrastructure can be used to improve the resilience of communities to stresses. For example, water infrastructure can reduce the probability of lack of good water. ‘Kamomi Aketi’ is a water project of this administration’s commitment to providing potable water supply across the three Senatorial Districts of Ondo State, the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, led administration has rehabilitated no fewer than 707 boreholes in over 300 communities under the Kamomi Aketi water scheme. This scheme the federal government also emulated from the Ondo state Governor in finding lasting solutions to the lack of potable water supply in Nigeria.

The footprint of Akeredolu great efforts has attracted Investors around the world to partner with the state on the industrial growth and development going on in the state. Governor Akeredolu has been commended for his efforts in gradually turning Ondo State from a popular civil savants’ state to an Industrial Hub.
