Cristiano Ronaldo is unhappy that club owners and billionaire investors are spoiling the beautiful game of football with excess cash.

The Juventus star disagrees that all modern-day footballers who go for big money in the transfer market are actually worth every penny they get.

Ronaldo, who broke the world transfer record with his 2009 move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, says the outrageous fees paid to some footballers are, indeed, laughable and unnecessary.

The Portuguese ace was paid a total of €94m to join Los Blancos in 2009. In 2018, Juventus paid a whooping sum of €94m to whisk him away from Real Madrid.

Comparing his current price tag, Ronaldo said: ‘The football industry is a money-spinner…And it’s very hard to make accurate calculations on a player’s true value in modern football because it’s a norm for most clubs to gamble on potentials.’

However, Ronaldo handpicked the case of Joao Felix as an exception.

‘Apart from few talented youngsters who truly deserve their price tag, it’s obvious that any other player can go for €100m—even when they have no exceptional qualities,” CR7 added. ‘That shows there’s money in football.’

The former Sporting Lisbon player continued, ‘Both center-backs and goalkeepers can rake in up to €70m or €80m…I don’t agree with it but that’s the reality…We just have to accept it—without questions.’
