Help Please, Don't Know Which To Choose From. by Enchantaurl(f): 1:03pm On Aug 22, 2019 |
I submitted my CV at a newly opened bar, for the role of a cashier. I was called for an interview on Monday and after the Interview I was told by the recruiters that I did well, but I needed to work on my CV as it was a bit clumsy (everything is in one page) I was told that I would be contacted for the next interview. My problem now is I have a job offer at Lagos to be trained for two weeks and then start working as a domestic staff with minimum pay of 30k. I am to travel to Lagos on before Monday as the training starts on Monday. And after waiting for an invite to the interview, I finally got one just now; it's to hold on Saturday this week and the result may be on Monday. Note I am in Port Harcourt. People I met during the first interview were all mature, I was the youngest at 18, and they all had Bsc and I have just SSCE don't know if I will qualify for the cashier job or not. I don't know how to manage the both without making a mistake. Because if I go to Lagos on Sunday and on Monday get a message to resume at the bar on Monday I won't be able to come back for lack of transport. And what if I stay back in Port Harcourt with hope that I'll be successful in the interview and then I'm not successful? Please contributions are encouraged. Thank you. |

Which one is the bird at hand? Hold on to it. Our elders were not foolish when they said a bird at hand is worth two in the bush. 2 Likes |

Amanee:The thing is I'll prefer the Port Harcourt job because of my school. I school in Port Harcourt and it's a bar where I'm to resume by 6pm and close by 9-10pm so it's better for me. I can school and still work. While the one in Lagos will require me to come back in November when we resume. The reason why I am considering the one in Lagos is because I'm not sure if this Port Harcourt job. |

Enchantaurl: well...the pay for the lagos job is not much...you need to consider certain things if you are to accept the lagos job. no 1... do you know anyone in lagos? or have an accomodation in lagos no 2... how well do you know lagos? no 3... if you already have an accomodation or where to stay in lagos.,,have you considered the transport cost? no 4... as stated in your post...school resumes in nov..means you will have to come back to ph. no 5... most important for me....travelling down to lagos is quite a risk..considering the amount you are to be paid in the lagos job..and of course...fulani herdsmen nuisance on benin ore way..not to discourage you though. if you are to wait for the port harcourt job... a few questions... No 1.. do you have an idea of the salary range? no 2.. since tp would be an issue if you travel to lagos,,and get called to resume the ph job on monday..that will be quite stressful, time and money consuming,,and like i said earlier,,,travel risk... my subtle advice is this....stay in ph...wait for the ph job..besides,, ph is a big city..you could as well get another job in ph...30k aint worth it if it means you will travel to lagos for 30k job. Also,, it seems as though you grew up in ph..if this is true,,,then getting a job withing ph city should not be so difficult.. if you ever need guidance...do not hesistate to call on me,...i grew up and worked in lagos before i was transferred to ph.. decide wisely 5 Likes |

The Lagos job is 30,000 and how much is the pH job and from what you said you prefer the pH jobs as it will provide you opportunity to work and sch as well, then my advice is forget the Lagos job and focus on the pH job if the pay is good even if you loose it another one will come. Let it not be a do or die affair |

captainking:Thank you. The job in Port Harcourt should be within 25-30k I've been job hunting but have not gotten any, and it's kinda hard as I have just SSCE. About 30k being small, I don't think it's small for an olevel owner,as I just want to work before we resume. Thanks once again. |

crunchyg:The PH is between 25-30k and I really need a job before we resume. So it's like a do or die affair, Lol. Thank you. |

unless you are being accomodated and fed in the place where you will be employed in lagos, you may find whatever you are paid will finish very quickly transport feeding accomodation you will also be completely alone. both jobs may expose you to sexual harassment and intimidation, but if it happens in PH you can probably get someone to intervene. In Lagos no such luck. believe it or not you may be preferred over the older people as a cashier because you are young and therfore have more energy and are expected to be more available you do not even know for sure if the Lagos job is a scam [na naija we dey] 1 Like |

ornicus:Yes my accommodation and feeding will be covered. I'm to work as a domestic staff. I pray they choose me. I guess I'll stay in pH till Monday and hopefully I'll be called. Thanks once again. |

Hello, I had to check up your profile after reading your post about your mum, so as to ascertain if truly you're 18 but now I know. As per this topic, I would you stay put in PH as I wouldn't advice you leave school because of #30000 job somewhere in Lagos. I like your style of writing and I want you to consider blogging on anything you have passion for e.g,fashion,politics,etc. You will do well if you take writing as side hustle. You will be great! 1 Like |

Enchantaurl: not at all,...2 pages is perfect...but...being that you are still an ssce holder, 1k ordinarly would be ok because you have no work experience yet. if you do....add it up to make it 2 pages |
