The Federal Government will prosecute everyone linked with the contract that resulted in the judgment of the United Kingdom, Business & Property Courts (the Commercial Court) which awarded a cumulative sum of $9bn award against Nigeria and in favour of a private firm, Process & Industrial Developments Limited, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abuabkar Malami has said.

Malami, who questioned the sincerity of those behind the contract awarded in 2010, argued that it formed part of the inglorious legacies of past administrations, which this government is being made to grapple with.

He spoke in Abuja on Thursday, while unveiling his agenda on his first day of resumption at the Federal Ministry of Justice.

He said henceforth, contract of certain categories will be vetted by the Federal Ministry of Justice before it is signed by any Federal Government agency.

Malami, also expressed worry about the impact of public corruption and the connivance of financial institutions in the thriving crime of illicit finance flow out of the country.

He said henceforth, financial institutions, linked with financial crimes, will be prosecuted along with the culprits.

Buhari is the only person that should be prosecuted over this .Buhari had two better options on his desk

1 . Obey the terms of the contract and allow PID do their job which would have earned Nigeria a lot of revenue as well as cut down gas flaring by about 75 percent .

2 . Pay the them the breach of contract settlement of 850 million dollar.

President Buhari instead opted to ignore both and make Nigeria lose 9 billion dollars instead .. It's should be noted this is not the first time Buhari will commit such a gaffe as we can can all recall in his bid to recover 35 million dollars from Tompolo Buhari made Nigeria lose close to 50 billion dollars in lost production time instead . Buhari is very short sighted in his approach to all things and can never ever see the big picture

It is not the Ministry of Justice's job to vett contracts.

Your job is to prosecute those breaking laws. Ak47 carrying herdsmen are breaking laws....focus on that!

Any minister that goes through Malami to have contract in his dept vetted is ignorant and doesnt know what his place and power is.

Ministry of Justice is not a vetting parastatal.

Contracts of huge financial implication to the country ordinarily are presented to FEC for approval. The minister of justice just like any other ministers can raise objections to any of the clauses in the contract agreement before approval. What Malami is proposing is absolutely unnecessary. It will only worsen the bureaucracy that is already a huge challenge in our public procurement process.

I am trying to understand what statutory power authorized him to vett federal contracts? I guess in Nigeria individuals can just make pronouncements and it automatically becomes normal expectations, no legal challenge or opposition. I guess the minister of communications will come up soon with his own rules; Finance will give her own rules.....and soon these rules will be copied at State level and every aspect of government is locked up in rules and oversights. Very disgusting!

Another wild goose chase. What is paramount is to settle the case first
