most of the time, imo, some muslims that leave their religion do it in order to fit in to the anti-islamist society like the US. there's a lot of hatred against them in western society from ignorant people (majority of the population. lol) and muslims don't want to be caught up in that so they do whatever to fit in ie by rejecting their religion 'cause people tease them for it.

then again, there's hatred for westerners in the middle eastern societies too.
the hate goes both ways.

to me, it depends on the individual to decide how they'll practice their religion. peacefully or not.
we know all the rappers that take pride in how many times they've been shot, who they fought, diss etc and all but they all pray regularly and claim Jesus Christ.

It is just not about Western Media alone - Look at the violence in Nigeria and see which one is caused by muslims _ I guess that is influenced by the western media too. The stats aren't wrong most of the world violence are caused by the muslims.  Guess how many people died because of a common cartoon in Denmark? I am sure christainity gets torn down by day in most islamic countries but you dont see Christains going around looking for muslims country embassy to burn or anything.

This is the silliest response i've seen in a long while. The US is an anti-islamist society? A place where the government is facing serious allegations regarding treatment of muslims at guatanamo bay? The same society that has just celebrated having its first muslim member of congress? The same society where people openly protested for jihad on the streets of NY and yet no response was taken? The society that has the largest influx of middle eastern muslims?
How many churches have you seen in Saudi Arabia and Iran? There are mosques in the US and u accuse it of being anti-islam? The UK is now rebuilding prisons so the toilets do not face the east (in deference to muslims) and u accuse them of being anti-islamist?
What about the muslims converting in Afghanistan? The society is anti-islamist too and they are doing it to fit in?

I wouldn't call this backwardness, but, you should consider that majority of Muslims live in 3rd world countries and these countries also tend to be more conservative/ very religious. a significant part of their life revolves around religion, their laws revolve around religion etc

It is even bad enough that a part of the episcopal church on the US decided to be under the authority of Nigeria Anglican Archibishop. How conservative can that get? Tell me if Nigerian christian dont get provoked by the muslims? Tell me how many muslims have died in Nigeria because of assault my christain based on their religion? And also tell me why no death sentence have been placed on muslim authors fro some sacrilegous books that have been released by Muslims bashing the tenets of christainity.

Anyways, I totally understand where you're coming from.

i still think it has to do with conservatism and progressivism.
the problem Islam is facing won't be there if most of the Muslim countries practiced the doctrine of separate churchmosque and state.

you read the history of the christian crusade in rome and whatnot and how they went about on killing sprees. will you say that Christianity "used to be" a religion of violence?

about the cartoons, there was already religious tensions in Denmark. the cartoon blasphemy was the icing on top of the cake.
plus a western christian could care less if there was a caricature of jesus having gay sex. they're not allowed to even pray in public places plus the talk of removing God's name from the currency and national pledge, christian songs are banned from public stations etc
the middle eastern countries, on the other hand, i'll be surprised if prayer wasn't mandatory or allah isn't on their currency, everyday songs. they hold their God in a higher esteem than christians of the west do.


It's like the equivalent of toppling the statue of liberty or burning the flag in the us. stuff like that will incite violence too. like i said, religion dominate these people's lives not ideologies like "liberty, democracy" as it is in the west.

when the west bomb the middle east and other places, the do it for liberty and democracy (very ironic)
when the middle east bomb the west, they do it for religion (also very ironic)

when people in the west get a job or get their way they thank the american dream, freedom and equality.
when people in the middle east get jobs, they thank allah.

so, you also have to look at cultural differences when you talk about stuff like this.


we all know most bombings are usually carried out mostly for political purposes (with the exception of extremists. see my previous post). it's only convenient to hide behind the mask of "promoting democracy" or "carrying out allah's will"

Nobody disputes that violence cuts across all creeds or ideologies-Atheistic Communists killed millions of people in the name of Communism,environmentalists/animal rights activists perpetrate violence too.However,simply pointing out this is akin to stating that incidents of poverty exists in the US as well as Nigeria,hence Nigeria is no more impoverished than the US.Such vacuous comparisons  leads to an obfuscation of real differences.

To note that religious violence may be perpetrated by Christians does not explain away the fact that religious violence is more prevalent amongst Muslims, just as noting incidents of poverty in the US does not  explain away the more prevalent poverty in Nigeria.
