Thousands of residents have trooped to Aba, the commercial city of Abia State, following the free distribution of petrol and kerosene by Abia born philanthropist, Hon Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that the Alex Ikwechegh Foundation will today, distribute free fuel and kero, as part of activities marking the birthday of its founder and chairman, which holds tomorrow, Sunday Aug. 25.

Aside the distribution of free petrol and kerosene to residents in the area, the Alex Ikwechegh Foundation also announced a visitation to Orphanages, Prisons and Hospitals in Aba and Enyimba area of the state.

As at 11:30 a.m. when our news crew visited the commercial city of Aba, many residents were seen with jerry cans of different sizes jostling for the free products.

Car owners, commercial bus drivers and motorcyclists were also not left out as they were seen on the queue in the various free dispensation locations visited by our news crew.

It was also observed that many linking junctions and ever-busy roads including the popular Aba road, Okigwe, Ngwa road, Fox road by seven deck, have been overtaken by the unending crowd who have mounted the streets to have a share of the free petroleum products.

Speaking with our correspondent, a resident of Obohia, Aba, Mr. Azubuike Onyemaobi said he was pleased when he heard of the free distribution exercise, while heaping praises and prayers on the celebrant.

“I saw people rushing to Uche Everest filling station and I tried to inquire, they told me distribution of free fuel and kero was going on there. We need this kind of person whom the poor can benefit from their riches. God will bless Alex Ikwechegh and give him long life so that he will continue to do more. This is what we desire”, he said.

Another resident of Enyimba city, Chief Ken Okeh, who wished Alex Ikwechegh was at the helm of affairs in the state, asked the celebrant not to relent in his efforts in seeing that the less privileged are uplifted.

“He’s obviously doing well in uplifting the people. My prayers for him is that may God grant him more wisdom and money to do more. Hopefully, we will have people like him in government some day. Wishing him a happy birthday and more fruitful years ahead”, he added.

On his part, Prof. Cosmos Ndukwe, former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, said; “The grandeur of goodness, monster of benevolence and merchant of let my people CHOP also. You choose this remmarkable day of your life to remmber the downtrodden by offering KERO and FUEL free to people of Enyimba. May God continue to increase your wisdom as you age gracefully.”

The Ikwecheghs family is known for benevolent acts especially when it comes to helping the downtrodden, including uplifting the needy and orphans in the society. Their late patriarch, Chief Mascot Ukandu Ikwechegh, is also not left out.

Alex Ikwechegh, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia, has always been in the news for the good owing to his benevolence in awarding scholarships and donating freely to orphanages.

Alex Ikwechegh Foundation was the first non-governmental organization in the country to visit the woman whose fingers were cut off by Fulani herdsmen in Abia, while generously footing her medical bills.

Just recently, Chief Ikwechegh donated huge sum to the family of Chimaobi Nwaogu, who was shot dead by Corporal Ajayi Johnson for allegedly refusing to give N100 bribe at a military checkpoint in the state.

The former Aba North Council Chairman, who was represented by Chief Kalu Uche of the Alex Ikwechegh Foundation, also announced a full free scholarship for the deceased children.
