lder statesman and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has berated the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) for putting spanners in the wheels of the quest for an Igbo presidency in 2023.

Reacting to the agitation for the zoning of the presidency to the South East on the heels of the attack by IPOB on Ike Ekweremadu last weekend, Musa said that he is among those canvassing for Igbo presidency in 2023, but that IPOB is making their job difficult.

Musa said: “They (IPOB) are now breeding enemies for the South East. We are campaigning for the presidency to go to the South East, even though zoning was introduced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that we are opposed to. It is good for us as a country because it gives every person and area a sense of belonging.

“So we support the zoning and we are saying the presidency should go to the South East and we have our reason. Now, they are making our job even more difficult and they are not helping even the people in the South East .”

On the attack on Ike Ekweremadu, the former governor of old Kaduna State said: “IPOB is wrong to have attacked the former deputy president of the Senate. Even though we are opposed to them because they are a separatist organisation, because they are an organisation that wants to separate NIGERIA, but we also have sympathy for them because they have genuine grievances.

“They are now spoiling the little sympathy they have by doing what they did. It is uncalled for, the person they attacked is an individual, not an organisation. I think it’s wrong for them to have done so.

“They are also making it difficult for us. Even though we are opposed to them as a separatist group, we have sympathy for them because of their grievances. But this mindless violence is making them to lose sympathy. I expect them to be concerned with organisations, not individuals; they should engage individuals with reasons. They should stop this violence.”

Musa added: “The threat on the South East Governors is not worth it. As a separatist organisation like Afenifere, OPC, Northern Elders Forum and so on, these are separatist groups, what they are doing will further alienate them from people that have any sympathy for them.”

Also weighing in, Elder Statesman and former adviser to late former President Shehu Shagari, Mallam Tanko Yakasai said that the hostile position of the Igbo Nation to Northern Nigeria and not the attack on Ekweremadu would do damage to their ambition.

In a telephone interview with one of our correspondents, Tanko Yakasai, said: “Neither the Ndigbo collaboration with the Yorubas nor the entire South would make them realize their ambition, but the support of the entire country.

“The votes of the entire South can’t produce the president in 2023, neither would the North alone. We need one another, and the Igbos who are being favored by some elites are showing some uncompromising attitudes that would completely deny them the chance of producing the president.

“Although there are strong agitations to allow Igbos to have the 2023 bid, but that is within the elites. What happens to the downtrodden electorates? Northerners are not that stupid.”

Yakasai continued: “Talking about what happened to Ekweremadu, that has proven to the world that these people have problems and they cannot be trusted. That action has completely destroyed their legacies and integrity in global politics.

“Ekweremadu is a leader with no match in the entire South East in the current dispensation. Do not forget he was Deputy Senate President thrice and he has done all he could for the Igbos, but because of the behaviour of some, look at how they disgraced themselves.”

But the apex Igbo socio cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo differs. Rather, it said the Nuremberg, Germany show of shame would enhance the Igbo 2023 presidential ambition.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Pan Igbo group, Mazi Chuks Ibegbu, drew a parallel to similar attacks on former President Goodluck Jonathan by Ijaw youths as well as rejection of former President Olusegun Obasanjo by the Yorubas in 1999 and yet both still became presidents of Nigeria.

Ibegbu also argued that despite the terrorist activities of Boko Haram and the attendant killings and destruction of the economy of the North East and other parts of the North, both current president Muhammadu Buhari and late President Umaru Yar’Adua still became the president of Nigeria.

The Ohanaeze spokesperson said that the action of IPOB, though misguided to the extent that it was violent and targeted at the wrong person, will serve as wake up call for Igbo leaders, especially the governors, to rise to their responsibilities to the people that elected them into office.

He counseled IPOB not to use illegal means to address their grievances, noting that Ekweremadu was a victim of circumstance; as he had been at the forefront of the fight against the marginalization of Ndigbo and also one of those that secured the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB when he was detained.

“The attack by Ijaw militants on Jonathan did it stop him from becoming president. They attacked him. I was in Yenagoa the day they attacked him, attacked his house, sacked him from his house. Did it stop him from becoming president?

“The refusal of the Yoruba to support Obasanjo, did it stop him from becoming president? Yoruba voted against Obasanjo, they voted for Olu Falaye.

“Boko Haram militants and their killings did it stop Buhari and Yar’Adua from becoming presidents? Why must everything about Ndigbo, even we ourselves we start doubting ourselves?

“There is no effect. It (attack on Ekweremadu) will not stop the Igbo presidency; in fact, it will enhance it. How? Because these young men are not happy with the situation of things in the country. They are not happy that they are politically, economically and socially marginalized. They are venting their anger, although misguidedly. They are venting their misguided anger because I don’t think Ekweremadu deserves that treatment.

“Ekweremadu is seen as being at the forefront of de-marginalisation of Ndigbo. He was one of those that stood for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, he was one of those that worked against Operation Python Dance. So the attack on him was misguided. I think he was a victim of circumstance.

“My advice to IPOB is that they should not use illegal means to approach their grievances. I know they have grievances, but they should not use illegal means and unlawful means; and it will also be a lesson to those who are not doing anything in Igbo land.

“I’m aware some governors owe their workers’ salaries and pensions; I’m aware that infrastructures in some states are dilapidate. I don’t want to mention names. Our cities are dilapidated and the little money that comes to South East, they pocket it. So this is a warning to them that they should live up to expectation,” he said.

Even Ibo elites, those who move and shake SE, always look for parallels to justify their shortcomings.

This guy compares lynching of Ekweremadu and ripping his clothes to shred as an equivalent to Yoruba not wanting Obasanjo as President. Imagine!

grin

Ibo cant bear his cross alone, he is too afraid to do so....he must find attachment to cling on.

Between Balarabe Musa and Yakassai, everything has been said about the North's current position on Igbo presidency in 2023, particularly in light of the Ekwemeradu incident.

They just echoed what we've been saying on this forum.

Insecurity
Terrorism
Herdsmen
Bandits
Poor economy
Unemployment
Suicides

Murders..

How many has the Northern leaders talked about, which directly affects you and myself, but they rather talk about Ekweremadu who is amongst the leaders not taking the right decision..

They're showing concern because of the noise for Igbo presidency. They're telling you you're cutting your nose to spite your face by your self defeating actions. You're doing everything to make your quest difficult and impossible but it seems most of you are too stubborn and obstinate to understand and amend.

In 2023 all will be clearer.

Except you're being insincere, several statements and efforts to stem the tide of insecurity and other vices have been made by Northern leaders, the most recent being at the meeting of Northern traditional leaders with the President on these same issues.

Besides have IPOB agitated on issues that affect them directly like the #IgboYahooBoys incident that is bringing so much shame and embarrassment to Nigeria and Igbos in general? Is that also the fault of Northern leaders or Ekwemeradu? Why are they mute if they're sincerely concerned about the welfare of Ndigbo/Nigeria?

Ekwemeradu's attack did serious damage to the perception of Igbos by Nigerians particularly in the North as it said a lot about their loyalty to Nigeria, their disregard for authority, contempt for our coat of arms, loyalty to separatist IPOB among others.

The stubborn, obstinate and rigid attitude that has been displayed by the majority of you regarding this is also not helping matters and is doing a lot to shape 2023 (even among those Nigerians who genuinely want a SE president) even if you aren't aware or disagree. There are more civil and unabrasive ways to go about any agitations (ask Oto ge Kwarans).

That's the essence of their position.

You keep talking about loyalty to Nigeria, disregard for authority, contempt of coat of arms and what not, and I ask, all you have written is based on how a people should behave and treat the government, respect the government, the rules and laws but "what is the people getting from the government if we are and have kept on giving all you mentioned"?.. are we not the people to be governed, are we not supposed to be the beneficiaries?.

The vices I mentioned (terrorism, bandits, bokoharam, kidnapping, unemployment, inflation, poverty) affects the masses directly, that is assumed as what we have received despite giving all that the govt desires and keep desiring

On the second part, the Kwara "oto ge" does not stop abdulrahman from taking same steps as his predecessor, what if he decides to loot all he can and retire politically in 8years like his predecessor? What repercussions are there to tackle him if the court let's him go like it let's all of them go?

The ekweremadu treatment is a reminder to the politicians that they are not immune from the people as they assume.

Foolish man... "Take the so called Igbo presidency and shove it up your hopelessly smelling Hausa Rectum!

As far as am concerned, Nigeria is dead and long gone. Any fooolish Igbo stuppid enough to take the bait of becoming president have no sense! Do you know what these people will do to you?

Ndigbo, when will you guys ever learn that these people don't love you? You go to there regions... Building empires and businesses! Yet you are still a nobody to them! They are just managing you.

Same North that before any election, you hear that they have 400 million registered voters! How do you defeat them? They have the INEC, ARMY, NAVY, AIRFORCE under them and these are people you think will allow you close to the presidency?

What most of you don't realise is that this country is tilted to favour the Hausa and Fulani alone followed by the Yorubas. The Yorubas are trying so hard to upset that balance and get ahead of them.

Ndigbo especially those of you in Lagos always talking rubbish because of properties owned here and there .. Have you people ever thought of what becomes of your generation with these Futa Jallo Nomads in the next 100 years?

Holland with a population of 9 million indigenes is a country, Small Moldova is a country, Small Norway is a country, small Sweden is a country.

But Igbo nation with a hefty people of over 50 million is a tribe not even an ethnic group? Kedu mgbe unu ga ama ihe?
Is this normal?

We see often here and elsewhere on Facebook where Mallaams continue saying that "Even if Buharis cap contests for election, they will vote it"!!!

But a Warrior God gave us in Nnamdi Kanu is being disrespected by you guys here? Gidi Gidi bu ugwu eze Ndigbo. Rise up and let the sun shine again!!!

God bless Mazi Nnamdi Kanu
Ohammadike Nke Mbu ndi Igbo

God bless Lovers of freedom
God bless all Igbo Lovers

We are waiting for your next order of boycott or total shutdown of the south East. Please say NO TO BOTH PDP AND APC. BOTH OF THEM ARE TOTALLY USELESS AND HOPELESS.

Governance is not perfect anywhere in the world, the issue is how a civilized people react to governance or the absence thereof.

Are you the only ones suffering any lapses of government? Why are you then the only ones to react in such an uncouth manner that ridicules your identity and puts your patriotism to question? You're entitled to your opinion. I'm brighter than to think you can be convinced otherwise.

The repercussions of your actions are what you're being warned about, not the validity you think your position has. Let that sink in.

Do you mind the hopeless Animal? When had the North ever loved Igbo? The Northern part of this useless nation has done more coups than any part of the country before. None of them was called a Northern, Yoruba or Hausa coup!!!

But 1967 coup which was spear headed by all the tribes service men was called an Igbo coup!!!! Why?

Why is the North suddenly loving Igbos? As if we don't know they have plans to hand over power to eaither El Rufai, Tinubu or Osibanjo in APC!!! Same North is discussing Tambuwal/Wike Ticket in PDP.

Do this people think we are daft?

Ndigbo, ahead ahead with Nnamdi Kanu. We all die with our leader if need be. I trust Nnamdi Kanu with my destiny and that of my family too!!! Thats why they want us to hate him. Because they know he is the only one that sees them for what they are and is not afraid of them!!!

If SOME Yorubas can trust a thief and drug baron like Tinubu and ALL Hausa/Fulani can trust a terrorist, jihadist and useless man like Buhari, why can't I love and trust my leader Nnamdi Kanu? Why can't I lay down my life for him to secure the future of my generations for me?

You cant keep going through what the masses suffer below and watch leaders loot and walk away freely with no repercussion which makes everyone want to grab theirs and walk aswell.

When has demand for good governance become unpatriotic? People question their leaders all over the world but because we like "Suffering and smiling" so when someone demand for his right, it becomes a problem.

If Nigeria is to move forward, give the Igbos chance. Holistically they are the ones demanding for the progress of this nation. You can't pay lip service to the yearnings of a growing population otherwise you wait for the danger.

Why are we having insurgency today? It is as a result of neglect and population growth which has increased more than the economy can contain and the people seek easy way to survive. "Survival of the fittest"

Nigerians should as a matter of urgency stand up and demand for good governance, make those in power to be on their feet and deliver as a matter of urgency.

If things continue this way, you, your children and the young population will continue to suffer and anarchy is inevitable.

Why is it that Northerners think that the position of president of Nigeria is important to most Igbos?

These are the same people that have had the presidency of Nigeria at various times but cannot point to anything they got out of it

Yet every day they will be talking about the presidency as if this is what will make the world break into two

The presidency of Nigeria is not half as important as restructuring or referendum
