Varsity Workers Begin Warning Strike Tomorrow 25th October 2010.

ACTIVITIES in all Nigerian universities may be halted for one week starting from tomorrow, as the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) begin a warning strike.
The one-week strike is coming on the heels of the expiration of the earlier 21-day ultimatum issued by the associations.
The strike is one of the actions by the unions in a fresh attempt at ensuring that affected state governments implement 2009 agreements reached with all state governments and the Federal Government.
The affected state universities are: Lagos State University, Tai Solarin
University of Education, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Cross River State University of Technology, Rivers State University of Education, Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Anambra State University, Enugu State University, Evan Enwerem University, Imo State University, Abia State University and Ebonyi State University.
National President of the SSANU, Promise Adewusi, disclosed this to journalists on Friday evening after a NEC meeting in Abuja.
Adewusi said: “This NEC meeting, which after examining the situation, has now resolved unanimously to proceed on a one-week warning strike beginning from Monday, 25th October, 2010 in sympathy with our members in the affected state universities.
“This is the first in the series of actions that would follow the warning strike.”
Also, the Anambra State University chapter chairman of SSANU, Mr Vincent Asoegwu, confirmed that the national headquarters of all these bodies had decided to join in the struggle for an enhanced remuneration for their members, and to get the remaining obstinate state chief executives to the negotiating table.
