I was at the mechanic workshop yesterday to fix my car,and if am correct d boy dat fixed it is not more than 10 years old, he changed my car kick, and also test run d car after working on d kick, guys I was amazed and I strongly believe that kid will go places,

and I immediately told someone if every parent can give their child the quality education and place them in anyform of workshops either ict, mechanic, eleclectician, name them, they have done the best and not just rushing the children tru secondary school and at the age of 15 they are already in the university without a single idea of how life is,what they just know is hw to solve calculus, and future mathematics,

the 21st century parents have to create employment and the time is now

africa4ever:
The increasing number of unemployed Nigerian graduates is quite alarming. According to survey, Nigeria has 47 percent of its university graduates unemployed.

Its quite surprising that a country considered as Africa’s largest economy could have such percentage of unemployed graduates from well renowned tertiary institution.

Here, we’ll be dealing with some possible reasons why Nigerian graduates are unemployable.
Course of study not in line with society’s need
One of the possible reasons why Nigerian graduates are unemployed is because their course of study in the tertiary institution is not actually or not in-tune with the society’s need.

This is because the quality of education and focus of training offered by the tertiary institution are quite different from the major needs of the society.

And so the graduates are faced with the challenge of knowing how to meet the society’s need since their course of study is not in-line hence, leaving them unemployed.

Job experience before offered employment
Another reason is that most employers require some years of working experience as a criteria before offering a job. This leaves the graduates off-balance as they just finished schooling with little or no working experience.

The surprising thing is that some employers will require 5 years working experience from a fresh graduates. How and where do they expect them to get such working experience from?

Low educational quality
The educational system in Nigeria is very poor compared to other country’s. Nigerian graduates compete for employment with graduates who studied outside the country and often times they are rejected because of the standard of education they acquired is low compared with that of their competitors.

This is a call for the relevant authorities to look into the educational system of the country.

Lack of employable skills
The Nigerian tertiary institutions have over the years produced graduates that lack employable skills that could guarantee employment. Their mind is like a tabular-rasa when it comes to employable skills. The educational system need to be improved to produce graduates equipped with the necessary skills.

Emphasis are not placed on entrepreneurship
Another major reason is that the country doesn’t place emphasis on the need for entrepreneurship in the school curricula. Graduates were not exposed to entrepreneurship while still in school due to emphasis were placed on theoretical education more than entrepreneurship.

Outdated curricula
Also, a number of curricula in Nigerian universities used are outdated. They are no longer in tune with the present university education realities, hence graduates are not equipped with the knowledge that drive Nigeria’s labour market.

Graduates lack the know-how in seeking for jobs.
One of the proven reasons why most Nigerian graduates are still unemployed is that they lack the required knowledge of seeking for jobs, making them loose out in the search. They are deficient in the knowledge of know-how in seeking for job.

Lack of jobs is the only reason.

Bro, solar is not also cheap. Imagine the cost of installing a solar that will be able to power a welding machine.

At the bolded, our Iq is not zero, just that we are not being trained on the relevant things, from primary school to tertiary

Yeah you're 100% correct. Imagine someone who studied petroleum engineering and doesn't even know the process of refining petrol. The main reason is that they think a degree is like a traditional title. Everyone wants just the certificate as
a bragging right. Try addressing a Nigerian without appending the degree eg. Arch for Architect, Pharm for
Pharmicist, etc and you will be wrestled to the ground. Ostriches!

Someone who bribes professors in cash or kind is only interested in a piece of paper certificate. The result is
that universities in Nigeria have turned to certificate mills. If Alexreports could, he would be dashing out
university certificates. To an average Nigerian, being educated is being able to speak impeccable English.
You can find many of them online acting as English grammar police. Who cares?!

Why do you think a graduate will find a way to remind one that s/he is a graduate? Many lawyers cannot draft
basic contract. But they will be the first to wear a rug on their head and remind everyone that s/he is a lawyer.

Bring basic logic, turn it upside down and you get Nigeria. Everything is in reverse.

So true... If the government can focus on inculcating the spirit of entrepreneurship into we the youths, there will be nothing like increase in unemployment anymore.

The government cannot employ everyone neither should the citizens be reliant on the government for jobs. Empower people to become entrepreneurs.

Not just that though... The environment should be favorable as well:
- good and safe road to transport goods
- source of constant (or almost-constant) electricity so operations can flow
- Rewards (in the form of support) to entrepreneurs doing well so they'll be eager to continue...

Well... Since the government are not doing these things yet (not that I know of), we can build ourselves and not just wait for a "government" to help us... Start with a small step till the dream becomes the reality.

How many people would become entrepreneurs? And is such a thing healthy for the economy?

Sometimes, obviously due to the malign milieu of the country, some of you forget the main duty of a Government. What is "the citizens shouldn't be reliant on the government for jobs"? That's a very careless statement. Why else do we have a government if it's not to provide for the citizen? An alarming 47% of graduates are unemployed and you're saying people should not depend on the government for jobs?

The government has failed, in all honesty. Look at European countries, and see how much the government provides job for people.

All this campaign about Entrepreneurship to me is rather useless. Let the government rather create more job opportunities. Real jobs, not N-Power nonsense. If everyone becomes an entrepreneur, who gains? And what kind of entrepreneur? Shoe making? Tailoring? That is what you need in 2019? Do you think the government can empower people in ICT, Robotics, and other relevant fields that dictate the future? A government that cant provide jobs.

We should stop giving the government a passmark, or forgiving their excesses. That's why people come out en masse to thank a Governor or senator for tarring 1km of road, or for erecting water tanks with no alternate source of power to pump water. That's why people sing praises when 1 block of classroom is constructed. Because, like you, they don't expect anything from government.
The government owes you a lot. Until we develop that mentality, things would not change. It's not welfare mentality, it's simply democracy.

Nigerian youths have been braving the odds for a while now. Please factor in our population, lack of industries and how a few people corner the national wealth. Our education system is a sham and daft policy makers. The truth is they can hardly give what they don't have. Without making excuses, there needs to be at least a minimum standard provided for the coming generation.

Let nobody come talk entrepreneur bla bla bla

Our banks are too greedy, they charge up to 25% interest on loans but in other climes the rate is below 5%. There are very few new businesses that would break even in the first four years.

By year 2023 more than 90% of Nigerians will be jobless. In fact, some will kill their loved ones and eat them. Many will cue for food but will not find it. Unless biafra is actualized and oduduwa and Ariwa stand on their own.

I don't agree that Nigeria's education is poor in totality. If you say so, surgeons trained in Nigerian universities are some of the best you can find anywhere, for example. Take a visit to LUTH. Also, a Nigerian university-minted first class is a distinction graduate in the UK or summa cum laude in the USA. If you say Nigerian educational system is poor in some aspects of the sciences and engineering, spot on.

And most graduates are trained to do certain jobs anyway. The issue is that we have too many people chasing too few jobs. What I wish is for the governments to come up with an employment development plan. And you'd see how we'd soar.

Why is it that similar stories were not told on the side of their children. They even get job before graduating.

Anybody telling U that Nigerian graduates are not employable is a criminal.
Our leaders are greedy. Most of them eat the salaries of more than 100 ghost workers. Most of them will even collect Ur certificate, tell U that the job is not successful while they will use your certificate to eat your supposed salary.

Have we ever pondered to ask why the same news of graduates not been employable is not heard of their children.

Though some graduate are not worth being graduates, but that story of not employable is sure fallacy.

For instance, last Federal Civil Service had graduates with 3rd Class shortlisted for enrollment while those with 2nd Class Upper were not even shortlisted. There were even no room for interview.

Until this country learn to be open in everything, Nigeria will continue to go backward and as well be unproductive.

Finally, the so called leaders cum politicians are our problem

Don't be a fool.

You should be writing on the fact that your irresponsible leaders have and continue to destroy the destiny and prospects of youths and graduates alike instead of writing nonsense.

How come most of these your so-called umeployable graduates excel greatly when they leave the shores of this country?

It is one thing manipulating you and another when you choose to celebrate it...

It is hypocrisy to say the quality of EDUCATION is the reason youths are not employable ..
Is there any job available in the first place. ..
Who are those qualified to replace those not employable. ..?
Is it not the family or girlfriend of the company directors or bosses ?
Nigeria is doomed with Nepotism and Tribalism.
Period !!!
