The Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, on Friday unveiled the e-registration programme of the Nigeria Immigration Service for all migrants (non-Nigerians) in the 33 local government areas of the state.

Makinde said the exercise was coming at the period the country was facing security challenges.

He said no meaningful development could take place where there was insecurity because no investor would invest where there was insecurity.


The governor said one of his cardinal objectives was to address security threat in the state, adding that the e-registration for migrants would help tackle insecurity, plan and know the total number of people to be budgeted for in the state.

Makinde said, “The state appreciates the NIS for the exercise because it will assist the state to leave up to its responsibilities. Those concerned should comply adequately without wasting time to avoid going to jail or being reprimanded.”


In his speech, the state Comptroller of NIS, Saleh Abdullahi, said the registration would help to identify and determine the migration status of resident migrants in the state and Nigeria in general.

Abdullahi said that the registration would also enhance the internal security of Nigeria.

Good move but I think Nigeria is so messed up, so much so that to even identify foreigners will be hard.

How can they even identify citizen and non citizen. A Hausa or Fulani man from Chad, Niger or Cameroon could easily pass as a northern Nigerian man residing in the state. Likewise Yoruba person from Benin republic or Togo.

The reason United States is succeeding in fishing out illegal migrant is because they have comprehensive data base for all Americans. And every citizen has an ID which makes it easier for police to track illegal migrants.

So I don't see that initiative working out cos Nigeria is just like a market with government which allow everyone to come in and leave at anytime.

Buh anyway, someone should please relay to him that ibadan need some major facelift, ajimobi has did his part, he need to continue building those roads and the urbanization of rural areas that ajimobi embarked on before leaving office. The public bus needs a facelift, nothing wrong in ibadan as the capital of sw using a better bus like the new buses ambode bought for lagos with good and mordern garages all over ib.
