The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Irrua Specialist Hospital, Edo State, Dr Sylvanus Okogbenin, has been released by his abductors, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV had reported that unknown gunmen, last week, abducted Dr Okogbenin around Ramat Park, while on his way back to Irrua from Benin City.

Two security escorts who accompanied the doctor were shot dead, with others escaping with various degree of injuries, while the CMD was whisked away.

The Edo State police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the development, said the CMD was released unharmed by his abductors.

The police spokesman, however, refused to say whether any ransom was paid before his release, when our correspondent inquired further.

Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, Dr Omoifo V., also collaborated the report.

“We are glad to announce to you that the chief medical director of Irrua specialist hospital, S. A. Okogbenin was released this morning.

“We thank everyone for your prayers and good will. God bless you!”, a terse statement released from his office read.
