How did dey burn him to ashes and d parents were able to identify his clothes and shoes.. Are d clothes and shoes fireproof?

'He Was kidnapped few months back, the Kidnappers did not  get the exact amount they asked for. They called his Parents yesterday and told them to go and pick him up. This is the result, they burnt Jamilu into ashes. His parents recognized only his cloths and shoes'

looking at the picture, something tells me the victim is still alive, this might just be a trick to freighten the parents to pay up faster.
