I have a friend that recently started working in Dangote refinery project and they moved him to Lagos with accommodation.

The OP is right and to a large extent very wrong on some of his point. He just dey speak English.
Whatever skills you have, never rule out the almighty number one factor. CONNECTION. Recently, I went for an interview on banana Island. From the secretary to the head of the organization. They kept asking me from where did I apply, who invited me, how did I find out they were recruiting. This is just a mere internship for 6months or so.
The woman just look for flimsy excuse to dispatch me with the usual we go call you syndrome.
Also, A CV written by the best recruiter in this world will not do shit if you dont have the necessary requirement on such CV.
Spot on is the skills and experience with what you can offer. This can actually get you the job but yet not still guarantee without connection.
By the way, i am still on the look out. B.tech in mech engineering, 2.1 nysc completed last march. Any opening or recommendation would be highly welcome. 2 Likes |

Even in private companies, connections too matter a lot. I have seen candidates with 2nd class upper, being bypassed for a candidate with 3rd class. And yes....the 3rd class degree holder, got the job. As for having additional degrees, it may help or it may not. It all depends on the company and the role you are being hired for, within that company. I have seen Masters' degree holders turned down in favour of BSc holders, because they were overqualified for that role. I have also seen Ph.D holders searching for jobs but unable to get one, due to pure discrimination, for a variety of reasons. |

Sometimes the society causes a strong havoc on our graduates. They are being forced to know that connection is the key to securing a well paid jobs thereby looking for connection instead of applying for a job.
We need to focus on why we graduated from school. Don't let any man tell u that you need a stronger connection to secure a seat. If you're determined enough you will succeed.

Although the economy is very bad and connection is a key factor. what are you doing to improve yourself in this Buhari economy? I know one big brother who is close to 40 but stay at his parent boy quater doing nothing but smoking weed , drinking and chasing olosho. His parents are managing so I dont blame him for being comfortable. Some boys says they can never be anyone's driver or cant work at this job or that job because they are school grads. Yet even in this Buhari economy, if you are not ready to hustle. Then don't expect improvement or connection to help you out. My own take, get good at a trade, start small.
