Why Trump Sacked His National Security Adviser by Zouzer: 7:28pm On Sep 10, 2019 |
Donald Trump has fired US National Security Adviser John Bolton. Trump announced the news on Twitter on Tuesday, saying: ‘I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. ‘I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.’ Bolton was Trump’s third national security adviser. His aggressive stance on relations with countries like Venezuela, North Korea, and Afghanistan notably clashed with Trump’s desire to end longstanding US confrontations. The news of Bolton’s firing came after reports that Bolton opposed Trump’s plan to meet with the Taliban at Camp David in Maryland. The news of Bolton’s firing came after reports that he opposed Trump’s plan to meet with the Taliban at Camp David. Shortly after the news of his firing broke, Bolton responded with a tweet, claiming he offered Trump his resignation on Monday, but the president delayed the decision. Bolton said: ‘I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, “Let’s talk about it tomorrow.'” The White House has since denied rumors that Bolton was fired solely because of he opposed Trump’s plan to meet with the Taliban. According to CNBC correspondent Eamon Javers, Stephanie Grisham said ‘it was many, many issues’ that led to Bolton’s firing. Many US politicians and lawmakers breathed a collective sigh of relief after Bolton, a notable War Hawk, exited the White House, likely lowering the US’s chance of obtrusive military involvement around the world. US Representative for Michigan Justin Amash said: ‘John Bolton never should have been hired. I hope the president’s next national security adviser will focus on securing peace, not expanding war.’ Rand Paul, US Senator from Kentucky, reportedly told CNN Corespondent Manu Raju: ‘The chances of war worldwide go greatly down… he has a naive view that believes we should recreate the world in our own image by toppling countries by violent overthrow and somehow democracy will prevail.’ Bolton was named Trump’s third national security adviser in April 2018 after the departure of Army Gen. HR McMaster. https://metro.co.uk/2019/09/10/donald-trump-fires-us-national-security-adviser-john-bolton-10718846/
