Top 3 Smartphone Brands Making Waves In 2019 by AnonPoet: 11:12pm On Sep 10, 2019 |
1. OPPO Mobile In just short seven months since its entry in the Nigerian mobile market, OPPO has generated plenty of excitement in the marketplace. The brand’s tremendous success with its flagship device, the OPPO F11Pro, has catapulted it to being one of the leading smartphone brands available. The OPPO F11Pro has been summarily described as the pocket-sized professional camera. From the beautiful and well thought out aesthetics of the F11 Pro to its very big battery, its seamless use made possible by the hyper boost and its ability to enable you to multitask easily, the F11Pro provides way more to the Nigerian smartphone user than any other phone in the market. The best feature yet of the F11Pro is its amazing camera. Combining a 48+5MP dual rear camera setup, large image sensor, large aperture and AI image processing, the F11Pro makes capturing photos with professional results absolutely easy. OPPO mobile, being a brand for young people has immersed itself in partnering and sponsoring youth-centric activities. OPPO mobile was a regional sponsor for the just concluded African Cup of Nations, 2019. During the CAF season, not only did OPPO mobile tirelessly support the Super Eagles, they also made sure that it was an amazing time for the fans as well. Fans were treated to wonderful viewing times with OPPO brand influencers and other OPPO mobile officials at luxurious places within Lagos. Staying true to their love for all things youthful, OPPO mobile is also one of the sponsors for the ongoing Big Brother Naija “Pepper Dem” Season 4 edition. They have presently gifted the winners of their task N2 million in gifts and cash, they have also given every evicted housemate an OPPO F11Pro. The fans of the show have also been carried along as OPPO has given out awesome prizes in numerous giveaway promos on their social media platforms. Globally, OPPO has also climbed up a step in the world smartphone ranking to become the 4th largest smartphone company in the world. We dare say that 2019 has definitely been the OPPO year! 2. Huawei Huawei has been in the Nigerian smartphone market for about 5 years now. Entering with entry-level phones, feature phones, QWERTY phones, and Android smartphones, they have had quite a long-standing presence in Nigeria. Huawei’s major selling point was that they produced smartphones considered to be cheap and hence affordable to the general public. They, however, were not generally considered to be an innovative brand until this year. The brand perception of Huawei received a tremendous boost with the introduction of the Y-series. Chinese smartphone maker, Huawei expanded its Y series with the introduction of the Huawei Y6 Pro, Huawei Y7 and Huawei Y9. The new Y series smartphones come with AI camera, dewdrop displays and larger battery capacity. With optimal pricing and good products, Huawei has been able to finally take a huge chunk of the share of voice in the Nigerian smartphone industry with these devices. Taking a clue from the OPPO playbook, the Huawei Y9 also has a rising and retractable front camera, which they prefer to call the “pop-up camera”. The rising camera feature was first seen in the OPPO F11Pro which was introduced into the market months before. Following the success of the OPPO F11Pro, it is safe to say that Huawei may have gotten the right idea from OPPO. Huawei had also been in the global news for the tussle and loss of access to google products which includes Gmail, the google play store and a host of others. This hasn’t affected the Chinese smartphone makers, as they still maintain their position in the world ranking. 3. Nokia The number 3 slot is truly a battle for me, as the Nigerian smartphone industry has been churning out great products, each trying to outdo competitors and even their own previous products. In 2007, Nokia held 50% market share in mobile phone handsets. By 2013, Nokia's handset market share decreased to less than 5%. At that time, the company also faced the near-certain likelihood of bankruptcy. The Nokia story has had a turbulent time, and the Nigerian smartphone industry has borne witness to it. However, the tide seems to be taking a turn for the better. With the introduction of Andriod operated Nokia smartphones, Nokia has been able to successfully rebrand and re-invent itself. The Nokia 9 PureView is Nokia's most recent flagship phone, and it comes with cutting-edge features to match. In particular, it comes with one important feature (or five depending on how you count it) in the form of its five-sensor rear camera, which is the most we've seen in a smartphone. Although we cannot categorically call the new Nokia Android phones powerful smartphones even with the five-sensor rear camera, and it might not be able to adequately compete with other smartphones with lesser rear camera sensors, the pricing of the new Nokia smartphones gives these smartphones an edge in the Nigerian smartphone market. https://thepunditng.com/top-3-smartphone-brands-making-waves-in-2019/ 3 Likes 1 Share
