The Police in Ekiti State said on Friday that they had recovered a weapon from one of the protesting students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Igbere TV reports.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state command, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, stated that “a weapon has been recovered from the protesting student”.

The PPRO also disclosed that the police had launched manhunt for the alleged attackers of the convoy of the wife of Governor Kayode Fayemi, Mrs Bisi.

This was as the school management said that three students injured in the course of the protest, had been discharged, with one still hospitalised in Ado-Ekiti.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, has constituted a panel to unravel the circumstances which led to the Tuesday’s protest by students and alleged attack on the governor’s wife.

Already, one of the four victims who lost their lives in the violent protest, Master Oluwaseyi Kehinde, an 100 level student, had been laid to rest.

The students were said to be protesting lack of electricity and water on their campus, when they had a clash with the police officers attached to the convoy of the Governor's wife.

The First Lady was said to have visited the area for another event, when the SUG President requested she addressed the protesting students.

An eyewitness told Igbere TV that the students went berserk after one of the security officers reportedly slapped the SUG president for the effrontery, prompting them to retaliate.

The once peaceful protest got violent, as the police officers called for reinforcements with at least two armoured vehicles, cracking down on the students.

I still don't why police use live bullet for protesters...it has been over 16 weeks of unrest protesting in Hong Kong and no death has been recorded why is it that our own police can't handle one day protest without killing people?

This will be quite disappointing if Gov. Fayemi cannot come out straight on this. Did those students shoot at his wife? Such a civilised man should bring to bare the civility I've known him to exhibit. Just imagine the level of sorrow in 4homes where their future were murdered in cold blood. It was not a war situation why shoul we lose our future because of protect on legitimate amenities? This is saddening and the governor's wife should come out clean on this while parents of all students that died be compensated.
King David punished Joab with death sentence for murdering Amasa in cold blood by instructing solomon to carry out his execution, God is not happy with all these bloodshed and Pastor Adeboye spoke the mind of God over shedding blood in this country.
Let governor Fayemi do something over this and fast.

The weapon that was fired at the woman right They just want to justify their inefficiency while claiming the students were armed. Same way they killed their boss the DCP in Abuja some months ago and claimed it was the Shiites that killed the guy.
