Am in my final year in school.I have been thinking of learning a skill lately and am considering programming. But everyone thinks its not a good idea and I should probably go for fashion designing.
The issue is I have never had interest in fashion designing. Please what do you think about me learning programming, what does it entail, will there be so many opportunities?
Please I need your quick responses please!

Don't be overly worried about the outcome of a course you haven't taken yet. Chances are you are young and have many good years ahead of you. Enrol for the two courses at the same time, and chances are you'll develop multiple skills and more interest in one and even learn from the one of lesser interest



Another sure thing is friendship would develop and many of the relationships you'll come to have will help shed light on the next step forward ..


Take a step one foot before the other and don't be anxious. Embrace your future with excitement. You'll create your own oath when the time comes

Sis... Programming is very very large nd will take u over 2yrs to be a good programmer.

Furthermore, it is fvcking expensive. I ve done only a year nd av spent almost 400k.

My advice! If age nd time is on ur side, learn programming. If not learn graphics nd other simple design then add it to fashion designing.

my dear go for what you love. It does not matter how long. Programming is bae anytime anyday but will require like other worthwhile endeavour your time,patience,practice,determination etc. You will not learn everything one day. But with each passing day as you gather the requisite skill for your chosen path and gradually perfect your game you would see worlds open up for you. Youve got endless opportunities. But you will only succeed if you love what you do

you are right. I know several guys that are self taught and they did not spend much. They have lots of materials and videos but they devote their time. You learn more by lots of practice and project creation. You may pay for some stuff though but its all on you to develop yourself

Dear anything you want to learn on your own, you definitely need a mentor.

you can be guided by interactive books and videos on youtube and many online forum offers assistance when you are stuck.any question you have or any glitch you experience have been faced by someother programmer so you have an avalanche of resources at your disposal.just google any querry and objectively sifter through the tons of material available. Many other programmers love seeing people make an effort and would be glad to help both for free and others for a fee.many people choose to opt for a fee. While i cant fault their choice,i do not see why you cant begin even the basics by yourself. Remember knowledge is built a priori that is from known to unknown. Start with the basics first and then ask questions along the way. Whats your location

I agree with you, but I think it's better for the OP to be specific in what she wants to do as a programmer.. we shouldn't just be talking around programming as a whole. This way, she can get better insights into what she really needs. One love guys!!!

Programming is a process not a skill.... Web development, app development expertise are skills..,..... Define what you want... Don't be too vague....

Cybersecurity (what I hope to attain after uni.... Next 2 yrs by God's grace)

Data science (I should be here considering am an Economics student)

UX/UI designers(creative designers for web and app developers)

Cloud computing (not very useful in Nigeria but wonderful abroad)

Machine learning and artificial intelligence ( still upcoming not fully developed and takes extensive knowledge)
Programming is fun once you get the hang of it....... I won't advise you take a course you don't like for the sake of getting money quick

Web development is great!
I started learning web development in my 300L and now I'm a Senior developer. Im now 25, studied a science course.
I started HTML/CSS when I was 18/19.
It requires a minimum of 2years of learning before you are regarded as a Junior developer.
You can start learning in this order: HTML -> CSS -> JavaScript -> PHP or Python or Perl -> Frameworks e.g Django, Laveral
-> React -> content management system e.g WordPress....... And the list continues.

Infact, as a developer, you are expected to learn on the job
Concerning people who are advising you to go for Fashion design, well, I have good news for you: you can combine both!
Finally, I would advice that since you already developed interest in web programming, don't let it down for anything!
You can always combine web development with whatever career or Job you do.

Start with HTML/HTML 5 and CSS/CS3
THEN EITHER BOOTSTRAP AND SASS (BOTH OF THESE ARE OPTIONAL: USED BY UX/UI DESIGNERS)
OR YOU GO DIRECTLY TO JAVASCRIPT AND PHP... THEN MYSQL AND PYTHON BY THE TIME YOU COMPLETE THESE AND KNOW THEIR LIBRARIES UR ALREADY A FULL STACK WEB DEVELOPER.....
Start with an Android app called web development... It's free on play store the icon is blue with a PC drawn on it...... Then when you have enough data start downloading YouTube videos....

Search for it by the name then put course at the end for best results.... Example "complete HTML course"
Use youtubeGo app..... If you use normal YouTube app.... It will consume more data but the courses will be broken down into parts..... But youtubeGo will put everything in one video and it will be like 400mb highest for 4hrs video sometimes even less

Did I just see someone has spent 400k to learn something that is free to learn on YouTube... smh
