with a doctorate degree, a lecturer dont need a pgde to be a qualified lecturer. Lecturing is different from teaching in Nursery and Primary schools were u need a pgde

So somebody will study medicine or engineering and still needs pgde to teach those scientific/ technical stuff. So he is saying u need a pgde to perform surgery. He is ignorant

And who is to blame for producing quacks? The country used to produce the best - professors who would go on to achieve much locally and internationally. The long decline started around 1984, if I remember correctly... I didn't mention any names oh!

NCE is a dumping ground naturally. Like a dullard beside me here who could'nt teach a primary three pupil and he a is graduate of NCE.

The theory is senseless. Many Nigerian lecturers who relocatea abroad are some of the best. I personally know one who could only secure an assistant lecturer role in a polytechnic but on relocation is a full fledge prof in a university these politicians send their children.
I believe it is first the system. The system makes room for decay and lack of innovation and training. So a lecturer will be reading one handout he prepared in 2000 in 2019. Secondly, poor funding. Our universities are advanced high schools. Thirdly, favoritism and ethnic bigotry.

It is a fundamental requirement for teachers to have basic qualification in education; it is one thing to be knowledgeable and quite another to have the requisite skills to impart it - PGDE seems to address that problem and hence mandatory for all educationists.

This professor is high on some narcotics. Scientists do not need your PGDE to deliver their teaching in the university.

Nobody cares about any diploma in education before becoming faculty member in the western world. And these faculty members are doing exceedingly well in their various STEM.

These people should spare us this trash. We are Scientists and we are growing scientists and not your type. We are impacting scientific knowledge in them and not teaching methodologies. Keep your PGDE to yourself. We are more than capable Your antics cannot work on us professor.

Your so called NCE/PGDE holders cannot withstand our academic prowess.

He is an attention seeker. He can mandate that for primary and secondary school teacher as well as those in the field of education and not for scientists.

Diploma is education is never a prerequisite to teach in a university in developed countries.

It is the National Universities Commission (NUC) that regulates and sets standards for the university education in Nigeria.

A PGDE is not part of the requirements for lecturing in the university as stipulated by the NUC.

The NUC has set a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) as the minimum qualification for lecturing in Nigerian universities. This requirement is above many other countries' standard. A master's degree holder is appointed as an assistant lecturer while a first degree holder is appointed as a graduate assistant.

Lecturing does not fall under the National Teachers' Registration Council regulations. That agency regulates primary and secondary schools teachers. No university lecturer is required to register with them.

Both the monarch and the VC should be properly informed. The VC especially should have corrected his chancellor for the obvious mix-up.

There is no university vacancy advertisement
for lecturing positions that requires a PGDE. It is not necessary.

University education is the highest form of education. It should not be dragged down to the level of A for Apple, B for Ball.

Our focus should be on productivity in this certificate driven country. With your pgde how many Nobel laureates have you been able to teach?

And you think only pouring in money is what is required? Money poured into any Nigerian institution will go directly into private pockets especially when 80% of that system in manned by quacks.

Rather sad that the Chancellor is giving unverifiable statistics. Which university's experience is he sharing? Which study produced that outcome? If PGDE is the solution, then our primary and secondary education should have been top-notch. Unfortunately, the university is a reflection of the poor primary and secondary school education. You can hardly bend a stick when it is already dry. None of the excellent lecturers I had in the university then had PGDE.
