African Women on Board (AWB) will on September 26 launch itself on the global scene at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States, Igbere TV reports.

This was announced at a media briefing held by the group on Wednesday at Victoria Island, Lagos.

Also on the group’s cards are: The Women Amongst Us (TWAU) – Sneak Preview on September 23, New York, United States; Breakfast Roundtable with Brazilian Diaspora on September 28, New York, United States; TWAU exhibition – Lagos Photo Fest in October; and Remarkable African Women Summit, 2020, Accra, Ghana.

According to AWB chair, Dr Nkiru Balonwu, the group is an independent non-profit and African women-led organisation on a mission to advance narratives and improve realities for African women and girls globally.

AWB consists of female and male change-makers from around the world who share the common goal of fast-tracking the trajectory of African females into the leadership roles of the future.

The group, which began in 2017, would be announcing its global launch on September 26 at the Ford Foundation Center for Social Justice, New York, US.

Speakers expected at the launch include Liberia’s Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, chief executive of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Oscar Onyema, and a co-founder of the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ campaign, Aisha Oyebode, among others.

“AWB@UNGA comes at a critical moment, a time when the role of women in sustainable economic development cannot be overlooked, especially in emerging economies,” Balonwu said.

“Our women play pivotal role in the world directly as entrepreneurs, innovators and workers in both the formal and informal sectors of the economy.”

Most notably, AWB@UNGA will launch ‘Project 100, 000 remarkable African women’ which will be a database of the extraordinary women of African heritage and their stories about how they are making a difference globally.
